Recreation area in the country: TOP-165 design ideas with real photos

Choosing the right place for a recreation area in the country

It is important that the recreation area is in the right place: it depends on whether anything will interfere with your rest and whether it will become a thorn in the landscape design.
Here are some requirements that will make it easier for you to choose a place to live in your summer cottage:

  • Aesthetics. It is important to locate the area in a beautiful location and ensure that those who are there have a wonderful view. There may be a lawn, an artificial pond, or a multi-level flower bed nearby. But no sheds, manure heaps or other household items should be visible.
  • Sun protection. Few people like to constantly be in a recreation area under the scorching sun. In summer, on the contrary, you want to hide from the heat in the shade: to do this, choose a shady corner of the garden with fruit trees or build a canopy.

Advice! If you plan to use the area for recreation, including sunbathing, leave part of the area in the sun - do not cover it with a canopy.

  • Rain protection. This isn't true for all recreational areas in the country, but if your climate calls for frequent rainfall, consider an enclosed gazebo instead of a patio or gazebo without a roof.
  • Shelter. From nosy neighbors, street noise and dust. This rule itself assumes distance from the main entrance, road and fence. You can also protect yourself artificially, such as with a hedge or decorative screen made from wicker.
  • Close to home. The farther the dacha recreation area is located from the main building, the more time and effort you will have to spend walking back and forth. Keep in mind that you will need to bring out snacks and drinks, bring dirty dishes, etc.

Designers identify 3 suitable places on a summer cottage for relaxing in the garden:

  • From the back of the house. It is especially convenient if this part has a kitchen and a separate entrance. The seating area can be a veranda, terrace, patio or nearby gazebo, open or closed.
  • Under the trees, away from home. You will have to go a long way to the kitchen or bathroom, but you will get a cozy relaxation corner in the country.
  • Under a canopy in the opposite corner of the yard. Often the recreation area is not adjacent to the house, but, for example, to a bathhouse. Usually the neighboring plot is larger and freer, there is no street or parking there.

Garden paths

A dacha is garden beds. A suburban area consists of a lawn, flower beds and paths.

How to make garden paths?

The main rule is to slow down. A good gardener puts paths where people walk, not where he wants them to. Until guests and vacationers mark the paths, do not design flower beds and paths, otherwise you will waste your time and energy.

Plots that have been waiting for years for a visit from the owners are heavily overgrown with grass, so grab a lawn mower if you haven’t been in the garden for a long time.

To make it easier for you to decide on the shapes of the paths, study the brief characteristics of the materials in the table.

Determining the type of recreation area at the dacha

A good organization where everyone will feel pleasant and comfortable

Of course, the very layout of the corner, where it will be pleasant for all family members to relax and welcome guests, will depend on what is expected to be obtained as a result. Everyone has their own understanding of what rest is.

If you dream up a little, you will certainly be able to organize a place where everyone will be absolutely pleasant and comfortable. If you want to create something original, you can use the services of professionals.

Recreation areas are of the following types:

  • open
  • closed
  • transmitted

The final choice depends on what the area will be intended for, as well as on the age of the vacationers.

Patio

Closeness, safety, peace

Ultra-fashionable design of the recreation area. The organization needs a well-leveled and sunny area (4-9 m2), located next to a residential building (not on the shaded side).

There should be no tall plants nearby.

The following materials are used to cover the floor:

  • paving slabs
  • a natural stone
  • brick
  • thermolegno
  • plastic modules

The fire pit is lined with paving slabs

When choosing the color of materials, it is necessary to take into account that dark shades will quickly warm up from the sun. The light-colored floors of the area will keep you cool almost until lunchtime.

This design feels coziness, security, and peace. For modernization, a canopy or pergola is installed in the corner. Planted ivy or grapes will provide additional protection from sunlight. Beautiful furniture will make the atmosphere more pleasant.

Planting greenery around the perimeter and arranging flower pots will only complement the design and make it complete.

Separate the structure from the main garden by adding hedges, shrubs or beautiful flower beds.

Alcove

The perfect combination

The most universal, very common solution. It adapts perfectly to any place in this area. This convenience requires significant costs to implement.

It is advisable to place it where there are picturesque views of the surrounding area. Tables and benches are great for interior decoration. Although this is not important. The main thing is that the furniture is combined with each other and with the environment.

There are 2 types of gazebos:

  • open
  • closed

The second type is convenient to combine with a garden stove or barbecue.

If you cover the inside walls of the gazebo with cellular polycarbonate in light colors, this will create the impression of good lighting even in cloudy weather.

It is not recommended to place it near trees or summer cottages. The space must be sufficient to allow repairs or other renovation work to be carried out without obstruction.

BBQ area design

Thanks to modern ideas, a gazebo can combine many functions:

  • kitchen
  • dining room and barbecue area
  • summer cinema

The important point is the combination with everything around.

When installing inside the grill, only practical, durable and easy-to-clean materials should be used. It could be stone, wood, metal.

In addition, the barbecue gazebo is equipped with a sink with water and a separate work surface on which food will be prepared. This area is fenced off with a dining table and benches. Curtains made of thick material hanging on the windows can maintain the temperature inside.

To create a unique ambiance in your barbecue gazebo, place it away from your home. For maximum comfort, additional lighting is installed inside. This is especially necessary above the place where food will be prepared.

Summer kitchen with barbecue

If the design provides for the removal of window frames, you will get a transforming gazebo. In the warm season it will look like a colonnade, and in the cold season it will look like a garden pavilion. As the weather gets colder, the grills, grills and barbecues installed inside will be used as a means of heating.

If wood is used to build a garden structure, it must be treated against all kinds of pests, destructive and moisture-deforming factors. There are special compounds for this, varnish or drying oil.

There is also a more durable wood called thermowood. This material is much more expensive, but it is not afraid of severe weather, insects and looks very beautiful.

Floors can be wood or stone. Wood will keep you warm and stone will keep you cool on hot days.

For additional convenience, the gazebo can be equipped with a centralized water supply and sockets so that you can use household appliances.

Terrace

The terrace attached to the house is a continuation of the house, but at the same time removed from it.

The advantage of this option will be its proximity to the main building, which allows you to quickly bring in and take away the necessary utensils and additional furniture.

The coziness of the terrace will be created by flower pots, flower beds located on the ground, and climbing plants that create green walls.

Pergola

It is somewhat reminiscent of a terrace - an area away from the house with supports and a roof. The main difference lies precisely in the design of the roof: in a pergola, its role is played by a lattice, which can be left as is or climbers can be installed.

In the first case, you will get a slight shading effect, but will not get full protection from rain and sun. In the second, the plants will eventually create a natural roof and will almost not allow rays and precipitation to pass through.

Gazebos are typically made from wood, and their sleek, modern look will make a great accent to your landscape design.

Green rooms

Such landscape compositions are still an unusual innovation. Cozy open rooms are separated by delicate curtains on pillars, vines, bushes.

Inside you can install hanging chairs or sun loungers, hang a hammock or garden swing, or put small benches.

Area for active recreation

If you prefer sports to barbecues and get-togethers, adapt your place to relax in accordance with your habits. An active recreation area in the garden requires the presence of a sports ground: it can be separate (football field, tennis court, volleyball or basketball court) or universal - an area with goals, rings, nets.

Important! So that the site can be used in winter as a skating rink or hockey rink, make a low fence and place the site close to the water supply.

Children's play area

Of course, the concept of a large family always implies the presence of children. Organizing a decent and interesting outdoor recreation is an important task for them. In this regard, a plan for setting up a children's play area is being developed.

The most convenient option for arranging a playground may be a place located in the courtyard area. In particular, in this case, most people strive to decorate the recreation area with their own hands.

Caring parents equip the playground in such a way that their beloved children can play and develop physically in the summer. Therefore, various types of sports equipment, rope ladders, fairy houses, slides and a children's sandbox are used as furniture.

The following elements were used for the arrangement:

  • various sports equipment
  • rope ladders
  • fairy houses
  • slides
  • sandbox for little ones

Playground

For play and physical development

If there are children in the family, it is very important to have a playground for them. Here they will be able to relax in a dignified and interesting way.

This place is usually located in the backyard. The device is designed so that children can play and develop physically in the summer.

The following elements were used for the arrangement:

  • various sports equipment
  • rope ladders
  • fairy houses
  • slides
  • sandbox for little ones

Bedroom in the garden

Do you think that in the garden you can only lie on a sunbed? This bed is heated by the sun in the morning, which protects it from rotting. The mattress is made of polystyrene, which is enclosed in a vinyl cover. This protects it from mold.

Green roof

If you feel like planting something in your dacha, plant a roof.
Organizations that deal with green roofs describe the advantages of such a solution: durability, sound insulation, and so on. Agree, the main thing in such a roof is still beauty. This is a feature that instantly turns a simple dacha into an elite home. Well, who wouldn’t want to go to a house under a moss roof for a barbecue?

A simple option is to stretch a support mesh on the roof for climbing plants. Of course, this is a completely different solution and can only be fully appreciated at the end of the summer, but it’s still impressive.

A “classic” green roof takes a long time to complete and is quite expensive. But what a result!

  1. Preparing the foundation. These are the structures of the roof itself: sheathing, slabs and ceilings. Since a green roof is always multi-layered and heavy, you cannot skimp on strength. If the roof is flat, you need to create a slight slope to allow moisture to drain.
  2. We carry out hydro- and thermal insulation work. A layer of waterproofing materials is applied to the base. Thermal insulation is needed if it is not already available on the attic side. Choose durable polymer membranes with an anti-root layer that will protect the insulation from overgrown plants, or lay a layer of additional protection.
  3. Drainage. It is needed to drain excess water, but at the same time preserve the vital activity of plants. Any special material is used.
  4. Filtration. To allow water to penetrate the drainage system without soil, lay a layer of geotextile.
  5. Priming. Lay a geogrid on which you place a nutrient medium for plants, fill it with soil. Choose soil depending on what you want to plant.
  6. Planting. For example, planting moss is quite simple. You need to take moss (if you collect it yourself, then take it from the soil; moss from a tree will not grow on earthen soil), dry it for two days, chop it and mix it with kefir. Apply this composition to the roof with a brush or hands. After six weeks it will be clear whether the plants have taken root.

If you decide to do the work yourself, try your hand at a small roof first.

And this is what should happen in the end.

Bath

What owner of a private home does not dream of having his own bathhouse. For fire safety purposes, it is better to place the steam room separately or through a warm passage from the house. Natural materials are chosen for exterior decoration. The design of the bathhouse should be in harmony with other objects on the site. It could be a small log house in the Russian style or a laconic building in the high-tech style.

Arrangement and decor of a recreation area at the dacha

Small details matter

Whatever decision you make to create a quiet space, small details will make a big difference. The appearance will be influenced by the imagination shown in the decoration, how correctly the details were selected.

Furniture for the relaxation area in the country house

Special garden sets would be a good decorative option. They can be created:

  • practical and lightweight plastic that is not afraid of humidity and extreme temperatures;
  • a nice and environmentally friendly tree, but in this case you will have to spend time caring for the wood, and the soft parts must be constantly protected from moisture;
  • rattan, which does not really like sunlight and humidity. For open areas, it is better to purchase furniture made of artificial rattan, which retains the attractive appearance of natural material, but can withstand changing climatic conditions;
  • beautiful metal, but expensive and heavy.

For those who are not afraid of a saw and a screwdriver, making your own furniture is an excellent option. For this you can use:

  • construction pallets;
  • stumps;
  • remains of boards and logs;
  • old tires and even barrels.

Such creations are distinguished by originality and special warmth.

Fountains, ponds

Calm and serene atmosphere among the murmur of water

A calm and soothing environment with the sound of running water in the background promotes relaxation. It will be nice to sit in silence, watch the drops falling from a small fountain, and put your thoughts in order.

A good option is to organize a secluded place near a small fountain or pond. In addition, you can install a canopy, a small comfortable bench, plant bushes and trees around it, and this will create a good environment for privacy and pleasant relaxation.

Plants and trees in the recreation area: what should be planted and what should be abandoned

Green garden rooms are not only an attribute of landscape design, but also an excellent way to zone a recreation area in nature or near a private house. Plants that are used to equip a garden topiary (frame figurines covered with greenery) are suitable here.

Climbing and liana-like plant species would also be appropriate. Such “rooms” are created by installing a frame along which plants will move, or hedges and trees.

Characteristics of parterre lawn in operation:

  • requires careful care: haircut, watering;
  • some areas need to be partially replaced from time to time;
  • near contact with curbs and garden paths, you need to remove grass especially often;
  • not always suitable for sowing (laying plates in rolls is allowed).

It is recommended to fence such lawns with low borders or miniature decorative fences (made of wooden or forged metal fences). It is necessary to prepare the soil in a special way and fill it strictly according to the instructions.

The Moorish lawn is very easy to care for - you only need to water it in very hot weather. You don't have to mow all the time - just mow the dead grass.

Types of plants in seeds:

  • cornflower (blue);
  • calendula (“marigold”);
  • summer adonis;
  • poppy;
  • gypsophila (rocking);
  • eschholzia;
  • central bell;
  • the space is two-foamy;
  • canvas with large flowers;
  • onion-anzur;
  • Nemesis;
  • meadow chamomile;
  • Echinacea.

Not all of the above flowers are perennial. But they sift the seeds well so that in the spring you don’t have to sow the lawn again. Moreover, the flowering cycles of all these herbs are different. Such a meadow is an ideal place for farms where bees are raised (honey is collected).

You cannot plant fruit trees, berry bushes or flower beds in the recreation area. Fruit falling from trees pollutes the sitting area, stains furniture and attracts wasps and flies. Berry bushes are inconvenient due to their clutter (supports are often tied to them), unless they are located along the edge of the recreation area. Any flower bed brings chaos to the street because it is more of a gardener's workspace. It is not advisable to combine it with a recreation area.

Additional little things

You can get the necessary comfort on wooden furniture by placing pillows and blankets on the seat and under the backrest. If necessary, they are brought into the room.

Cushion covers must be removable. This is necessary to maintain cleanliness.

It wouldn’t hurt to install a firebox in the form of a regular barbecue or outdoor fireplace. Such an element can be either mobile or stationary, installed in a permanent place.

For those who like to sit on soft seats, it is recommended to use cushions

If it is not possible to arrange it due to the small space, it is possible to install a box in the central part of the site on a concrete support into which to pour coal. The result will be a kind of improvisation of the hearth.

Hanging bells, ribbons, bird feeders, and flower pots look great in the decor. Electric candles are installed for safety reasons. And if you are creating a mini-garden in the space, special lighting is installed on the paths leading to the terrace and on the threshold. It can be in the form of columns or integrated.

The more seats you have, the more opportunities you have to maintain close conversations. Wicker chairs are comfortable because they are resistant to sun, rain, temperature changes and are easy to clean. Don't forget to put benches or benches for small children - then, for sure, the needs of all family members will be met.

Who said that a garden seating area should only be relaxing? Cobalt-colored wicker furniture will become the epicenter of energy in your garden.

Decorate your vacation spot with items that won't deteriorate due to extreme temperature changes. In this version, the owners hung their collection of straw hats.

A resting place can be organized away from the everyday hustle and bustle in any secluded corner of the garden. You can build it yourself from old porch beams and disassembled cornices. Relaxation area in the garden - photo: “We have a gingerbread house.”

Flower beds

The fastest and easiest way to make a site attractive is to create several flower beds. Flowerbeds can be used to frame paths, decorate the front entrance or backyard. Borders made of stone, twigs, and tiles will give flower beds a well-groomed appearance. Unusual supports in the form of old barrels, garden wheelbarrows, and retro bicycles will add originality.

Lighting of the recreation area in the country

You can add magic to your cottage with the help of well-organized lighting. It is divided into functional (indicating the location of paths and individual objects) and decorative (indicating a certain landscape decor).

  • directional light sources (used to illuminate paths and green spaces);
  • headlights (various in many models);
  • candles (used to create a romantic atmosphere);
  • water lamps (used to illuminate tanks).

Handmade lighting products made from scrap materials are welcome. So you can devote yourself to creativity during the day and admire the result in the evening hours.

The design of a recreation area in a dacha must be done on an individual basis, taking into account financial capabilities, as well as the specifics of a residential building and yard.

If you have patience, even the most remote area can be turned into a picturesque oasis, full of comfort and coziness.

Alcove

This is a classic option for arranging a recreation area in our country.
Today there are a lot of design solutions for gazebos, and every year new, more sophisticated and unusual ones appear. They can be wooden, forged, brick, concrete. Internal contents may also vary.

A little about the fire in the recreation area at the dacha

Recreational areas are almost always located near barbecues, barbecues, and other potentially dangerous items.

For a relaxing holiday in such places for cooking you need:

  • be at a distance of 3 meters from trees, bushes, wooden buildings;
  • have free access to water;
  • have a stable base.

At the same time, the food preparation area should not be too far from the guests, otherwise the head cook may feel cut off from society or forget to turn the meat or potatoes in time.

A cozy seating area will help you get additional pleasure from being in nature and have a good time with your family or friends.

Summer cuisine

Kebabs! This is probably the number one reason to get out into nature. The main gathering place for friends is the open-air dining room next to the summer kitchen.

A regular barbecue or fire is enough to fry meat and vegetables on the grill. If you want something more interesting, take a look at complex grill models; you can use them to prepare gourmet dishes in your dacha.

If an electric grill or roaster is installed in the summer kitchen, it will be easier to plan and decorate the summer kitchen.

Barbecue area at the dacha. Where to place

It so happens that outdoor recreation is always associated with a barbecue area, where you can fry meat and cook vegetables, thereby getting closer to nature. When choosing a place for a barbecue, it is important to remember that there should be no flammable or related items nearby. This place must have the following characteristics:

  • Wind protection. This is because wind can not only interfere with the grilling of meat or vegetables, but also increases the risk of nearby items catching fire.
  • The barbecue or barbecue area should be level and free of holes and protrusions. The smoother the surface, the more stable the grill will be, and therefore safer for others.

Alpine coaster

Massive stones, pebbles, several low-growing conifers and unpretentious perennials are the attributes of a classic alpine hill. A stone garden is easy to maintain and fits harmoniously into almost any gardener’s idea. When creating a rock garden, it is important to observe the tiering of the composition. Sun-loving and drought-resistant crops are placed on top. Phlox, aubrietta, anafalis, which require more moisture, are suitable for the middle tier. The foot of the hill is decorated with plants that are not afraid of shading.

A selection of budget options

The simplest recreation area that does not require investment is outdoor furniture. Installs directly above the ground without creating a deck or canopy.

An inexpensive covered terrace or gazebo is equipped with polycarbonate - this inexpensive material is easy to work with, it protects from rain and sun and is suitable for an interesting design in a modern style.

If protection from rain is not so important, place a table under the vine - the plant creates a pleasant shade.

Advice! To avoid buying special furniture, make your own from pallets. Pallets can be found free or purchased inexpensively and are an excellent building material. From the bench there are sofas, armchairs, tables, bar counters, sun loungers and much more.

Patio

It is a kind of courtyard in the yard, with a table, chairs and barbecue. It is erected in the open air and is not fenced off from the rest of the site. Additional elements may be:

  • pool;
  • sun loungers;
  • lawns with flower beds;
  • statues;
  • fountains.

The specific configuration of the patio depends on the imagination and wealth of the dacha owners.

  • Electric lawn mower: which one to choose?
  • Wooden fences
  • Purchase and inspection of land

Advantages of a recreation area in a suburban area and the nuances of its arrangement

Typically, places to relax in a dacha are determined at the stage of creating a project. The advantages of these zones are that:

  • provide the opportunity to eat in the fresh air;
  • allow you to celebrate special events and holidays in a cozy atmosphere;
  • quite practical, since they can be created from building materials left over from renovation;
  • may have different design solutions;
  • ergonomic, as they are adapted to the specific needs of the owners;
  • they do not require significant financial investments.

Please note that garden furniture must be moisture resistant. The material can be wood, wicker, rattan, bamboo, stone, metal, plastic.

If you plan to place a sofa or chairs in the garden, choose models so that any elements that can absorb water can be quickly and easily removed and can be washed in a washing machine.

Good zoning of the site necessarily includes a place to install a barbecue or outdoor fireplace. It is also worth taking a close look at the landscape. These can be flower beds, flower beds, rose gardens, alpine slides, tree plantings.

Ampelous plants, for example, roses, clematis, grapes, nasturtiums, and ivy, are popular among landscape architects. Planted around the perimeter of the gazebo or along the wall, they are intertwined over time, adding shade and freshness.

garden furniture

The finished seating area is constructed using eucalyptus or rattan furniture placed directly on the grass under the trees.
Decide for yourself which furniture to choose:

  • wooden furniture easily fits into the appearance of the garden;
  • Plastic furniture is easy to care for;
  • metal garden kits are reliable and durable;
  • wicker furniture looks great and lasts a long time;
  • Upholstered furniture made of polyrattan is comfortable and can be used outdoors.

The problem with garden furniture is the capricious climate. That's why it is made of metal, wood or plastic. Reliable, but tough. Buy or sew soft pillows that can easily be hidden under the roof in case of rain.

What is the difference between barbecues and barbecues: classification of types

A barbecue is a Middle Eastern type of device for cooking over coals; a barbecue is most likely of African origin (Haiti), but has found its widespread use in America.

The grill has a simpler design and cooking method: a box made of fire-resistant material is filled with hot coals, on which meat, fish, poultry, mushrooms or vegetables are subsequently fried, put on skewers or placed on a grate (inside it). A barbecue is, one might say, a grill.

A wrought-iron gazebo in the country with a barbecue is a convenient option for a small area

Barbecues have a different configuration: inside the (usually round) box there is a pair of grates (the lower one for coals and the upper one for food), thanks to this design, the dishes are richly saturated with smoke, acquiring a special aroma.

Semi-closed area made of untreated wood with barbecue

Braziers and their types:

1. Stationary - constructed from durable materials and must be installed on a good foundation; such a grill can look like an oven.

Stationary brick grill similar to a Russian stove

2. Mobile - portable roasters with light weight, which most often have a collapsible base.

Mobile outdoor grill of non-standard type

3. Collapsible - the cheapest barbecues with very low weight, made of metal elements that are easily attached to each other, becoming a small box on legs as a result of assembly; usually used once or a couple of times.

A collapsible type of barbecue for reusable use, which is attached to the railing

Barbecues and their types:

2. Stationary - they are a large brazier made of brick or stone; often combined with a stove or cooking platform.

The stationary outdoor barbecue has a monumental appearance, as it is made of stone

2. Cauldron-shaped - equipped with a vaulted, streamlined lid, which allows you to bake well not only small pieces of meat, but also whole poultry (for example, turkey, as Americans like to do on Thanksgiving Day).

The pot-shaped barbecue is ideal for the garden area

3. Mobile - they cannot be disassembled, but they move perfectly thanks to the wheels; usually equipped in the lower part (under the brazier) with a cabinet or tray where provisions, coals, lighter fluid and kitchen utensils can be placed.

Mobile barbecues move perfectly around the dacha area

4. Folding - portable barbecues of small format and light weight; Designed for outdoor picnics.

Portable types of barbecues can be taken with you outdoors in any weather

Advice! To create something similar to a barbecue out of a barbecue, you don’t have to buy a new design; you can simply purchase a double grate with clips, which will give the meat, fish or vegetables the desired “smoky” effect.

Is a foundation always needed?

A brazier can be either a regular oven or a specialized grill. Both types can weigh much more than a hundred kg. Of course, such a mass requires a well-created foundation so that over time the structure does not fall underground, become deformed, or even break completely. It is best to create a separate foundation: a monolithic concrete slab for the hearth, and a lightweight one, such as a columnar one, for the walls. This, firstly, is more budget-friendly, since filling the entire surface will be much more expensive, and secondly, it is completely impractical, because the load will be uneven; the main thing is that the brazier itself is located under a securely made foundation, which should protrude 5-10 cm beyond the perimeter of the oven.

The barbecue area on a high foundation made of natural stone guarantees the stability and durability of the brazier

Playground

If there is a younger generation in the house, you cannot do without a playground. Mandatory attributes are a swing and a trampoline. Little kids will be delighted to have a sandbox; older kids are always especially delighted by a tree house they built with their own hands. When arranging the site, it is important to pay attention to the coating. Safety rubber tiles or lawns are ideal.

Fountains, ponds

The sound of rushing water gives peace and tranquility. Sitting in silence, it is pleasant to watch the flowing streams of the fountain. This is a secluded corner where no one will disturb you, and you can relax and collect your thoughts.

Setting up a relaxation area near a small pond or fountain on your property is just a great idea. A canopy, shrubs or trees around, and a small comfortable bench are enough to create a pleasant, secluded atmosphere. Blankets and beautiful pillows will help add comfort.
