How to make the cheapest fence for your dacha with your own hands?

Construction work at the dacha begins with the erection of the garden plot fencing. When all the funds are planned for the construction of residential and commercial buildings, and for landscaping the territory, then you can fence your plot relatively inexpensively. But a cheap fence from budget options does not mean low-quality. A wide range of different building materials allows you to build an inexpensive and beautiful fence.
Small dachas are enclosed with fences made of mesh or wood. When the territory is over 10 acres, then a fence made of wooden or metal picket fence is suitable. But large dachas are enclosed with fences made of profiled sheets.

If building materials are lying idle at the dacha or they are left over from the construction of a house, then a fence made from the remains will undoubtedly be the cheapest in cost. Now it’s no longer worth calculating how much materials previously cost you. When making a fence with your own hands, the money spent will pay off. From the remains you can build a stone, brick, or wooden fence. If the cut trees were not taken to the landfill, then you can build a cheap, but very creative and stylish fence like this:

It is enough to cut the log into pieces, treat it with anti-corrosion and antistatic agents - and the fence will last for more than five years. These are mainly private cases, since rarely does anyone have building materials lying around on their site today. Usually, you have to buy material for the fence or order the fencing on a turnkey basis from private owners or from construction companies class=”aligncenter” width=”966″ height=”610″[/img]

What are the features of country fencing?

If your summer cottage plot is located among other plots, then there are certain restrictions between neighboring properties regarding the nature of the fence and its height. The fence should not cast a continuous shadow. And it is not built higher than one and a half meters. Of course, these conditions are rarely met in practice. Although such requirements make it possible to make a fence inexpensive at the price of building materials. To build a fairly cheap palisade, the following materials are used:

  • Rabitz;
  • fence.

Fences made of welded mesh and welded sections of rolled metal will cost more.

You can save on materials if you use expensive materials for the “face” of the dacha, and cheaper materials for fencing from neighbors around the perimeter.

And even when you are separated from the neighboring area by a grid, its “transparency” can be hidden. They form so-called hedges from evergreen shrubs or low-growing trees. Living fences will hide your territory from prying eyes and protect from dust and wind. Plants absorb harmful gases and dust.

When you need an inexpensive and “blind” fence along the front boundary of the site, the choice of building materials is boards or corrugated sheets. If you build the fence yourself, you can come up with a stylish and effective design

Tips on how to reduce the cost of a fence

  • Combine materials. For example, install a beautiful metal fence on the side adjacent to the street, and a cheap mesh between neighbors.
  • Do some of the work yourself. To avoid paying for dismantling, remove the old fence yourself. If you feel that you can install the supports and tension the mesh yourself, do so.
  • Think about where and how many wickets you will make. This part of the work costs more.
  • Calculate what will be more profitable for you: order a turnkey fence or bring the materials yourself and pay only for the work. To do this, you will have to call fencing and metal supply installation companies.
  • Install temporary fencing using leftover building materials. Boards, pipes, pallets, slate, even tires and glass bottles - the handy owners use everything. True, it is difficult to predict how long such a structure will last.
  • Invite your neighbors to chip in for the fence. In this case, you can install better fencing while spending less money.

Requirements for fences on the site

When constructing a structure, each summer resident is subject to restrictions. This is because the fence applies to both your site and the neighboring one, therefore you must take into account not only your own, but also other people’s interests. The fence creates shade for ornamental, fruit bushes and trees, for vegetable and flower beds. Therefore, the fence must be installed at a certain distance from the plantings.

Legislative standards have been established for the distance between different buildings and the fence. There are setback standards from the fence to the plantings. The standards are determined by the conditions for growing crops and fire safety. Possible minimum distance:

  • from a residential building to a fence - 3 meters;
  • from the fence to utility structures, including bathhouses - 4 meters;
  • from the fence to the garden - 3–4 m (the height and width of the crown of green spaces is taken into account);
  • from the fence to the bushes and beds - 1 meter.

If the rules are not followed, this often leads to problems with neighbors or regulatory authorities. At best, the conflict will end with a fine, at worst - with a lawsuit. Unfortunately, site parameters do not always allow compliance with all standards.

Wooden fences

Wood is a beautiful and natural material. Wood is used by fans of the classic rustic style, connoisseurs of environmental friendliness and noble colors of wood. Advantages

wooden fencing:

Flaws

:

  • the need to treat with an antiseptic after 3-5 years;
  • wood, compared to metal and mesh, is not as durable and is susceptible to rotting;
  • Due to bad weather, the boards can swell and bend.

To ensure that wooden fences last longer, many developers erect poles from steel pipes treated with anti-corrosion agents. Such fences last at least 20 years.

The simplest and not too expensive would be a fence made from a picket fence or a fence board. Why inexpensive? This wooden fence is constructed from sawmill waste. Wood scraps are cheap. Just keep in mind that the protective capabilities of the erected fence will be low. You can decorate the picket fence with paint and slats.

“Full-fledged” fences are also constructed from wooden picket fences, characterized by a high degree of protection and reliability. Such a fence can be “blind” when the fence board is double-stuffed - on the inside and on the front side.

A slatted fence is considered a decorative type of wooden picket fence. Basically, such a fence is installed from manufactured sections in lattice form. The frame section is made of slats packed diagonally.

Craftsmen make slatted fencing with a decorative bias:

And this cheap fence no longer looks like a simple structure.

Look stylish and original «

fences made of wooden slats.

Edged board fences are made both with “holes” and solid ones. When mounting a blind fence on the veins, the boards are laid end-to-end or on both sides (alternately on the inside and outside).

When making a perforated fence, fill the cross members of the fence board spans in the same way as a picket fence.

An original solution would be to construct a fence from horizontally oriented edged boards.

The cost of this structure is not too high, but the appearance is nice, and by being creative, you can achieve exclusivity of the fence.

Among wooden structures, a wooden shutter fence occupies a special place. Externally, such a fence is similar to a wall lined with planken. Slats, panels or boards are positioned according to the same principle: at a certain angle, the front side of the upper rail in a vertical plane hangs over the lower board.

Solid and “holey” spans are ideally combined in wooden blinds:

  • the dacha area is not visible to curious neighbors and strangers;
  • direct wind exposure is reduced, less dust and dirt penetrates from the street;
  • the cottage is ventilated, and excess moisture from the ground evaporates faster;
  • the shadow from a wooden shutter fence is not so “dense” and medium-sized crops can be easily planted nearby.

Another type of wooden horizontal fencing is a fence using a block house. It is a material facing panel, which is produced with a thickness capable of withstanding severe mechanical loads. The decorative nature of the panels fits perfectly into the rustic landscape style. And especially when a residential building is built from rounded logs, or lined with siding or a block house.

This type of fencing is not one of the cheapest structures. But in terms of characteristics, a block house is no worse than many types of fences made of planed lumber.

The photo shows a block house made of metal panels:

Wooden picket fence (fence board)

Another option that you should not forget about when choosing a material for a fence is a wooden picket fence, also known as a fence board. In essence, this is a classic wooden fence that has a “rustic” (in a positive sense) appearance and is suitable for lovers of environmentally friendly construction.

Advantages:

  • Authentic appearance.
  • Possibility to independently choose the width of sections and the distance between boards.
  • Excellent maintainability, since you can only replace damaged boards, and not the entire section.
  • Large selection of colors.

Flaws:

  • Not the highest strength.
  • Increased price (about 600-900 rubles per m2).
  • Labor-intensive installation if individual boards are used rather than ready-made sections.

Living fencing

The hedge option in our country is not as widespread as in the West. But it’s worth trying to enclose some part of the site with beautiful shrubs or trees.

Advantages

hedge:

  • is an excellent protection of the dacha area from dust and gusts of wind;
  • If you properly care for the plants, the fence will last longer than standard fences. For example, the evergreen cherry laurel shrub grows in one place for a hundred years;
  • It looks aesthetically pleasing and provides the soil with additional fertilizer.

Minuses

:

  • often plants grow unevenly and can be affected by pests and diseases;
  • Caring for the fence will require time or additional expenses.

To plant a hedge, deciduous and coniferous crops, both shrubs and trees, are used. For example, a living fence made of evergreens: western thuja, cherry laurel, juniper. A hedge of deciduous crops: hawthorn, honeysuckle, rose hips, hydrangea, common hop, etc. Seedlings are planted for living fence from mid-April to mid-May.

Budget options for fencing using improvised means

It’s worth immediately explaining to the reader that not all building materials that are classified as improvised are “legal.” As a penny fence, there are palisades or wattles made of poles or branches that were cut down in a planting or forest.

But illegal cutting down or pruning of green spaces, including vines, threatens a visit from the police and is punishable by the criminal and administrative codes. For private owners, the fine is 4-5 thousand rubles. And if signs of a criminal act are found, the fine reaches 100 thousand rubles or more. It should also be taken into account that for a fence purchased from illegally obtained wood, a fine is also issued to the seller and the buyer.

There is only one way out: when buying a wicker fence, demand the original permitting documents from the seller, and make copies for yourself.

But still, a wicker fence, even purchased, is cheap. But fencing made of logs is difficult to classify as a budget option.

The cheapest wood materials include croaker. This material is waste from lumber production. Croakers are divided into two classes: for work and for firewood. To build a fence, choose the first option. These trimmings are more uniform and thicker in diameter.

The slab should be selected based on the quality of the wood (exclude the presence of rotten areas), and the uniformity of size: the plates are selected to be approximately the same width and thickness. If it is suspected that the croaker is infected with a bark beetle, then the material is sanded and treated with a special solution. Otherwise, you can infect the green spaces on the site.

After slab, unedged board is considered an inexpensive building material. Affordable but stylish wooden fences emerge from the boards. When building with your own hands, it is worth considering this nuance: it is best to use a wide format.

A vertical fence made of unedged boards is installed with an overlap, alternating the “back” and “front” sides in turn. When installing horizontal fences, the boards are arranged in a more varied manner.

Unedged boards can be fastened together in a herringbone pattern. Installation is carried out similarly to the installation of siding.

An inexpensive option for fencing material includes pallets; it would be more correct to call them Euro pallets. They are made from high-quality edged boards. Our enterprising people even make furniture items from Euro pallets. And not only garden furniture, but also for rooms in a rustic or loft interior style.

The europallet is used as a “raw material” for construction. You can disassemble the pallet into boards and build a standard vertical fence from them. Or make a horizontal fence, using both boards at the pallet and the “two-row” volumetric structure itself.

There are options where the Euro pallet is used without changes: these are low fences that are often used to zone a site. Or this design of a fence made from pallets:

Facade mesh fence

The idea of using facade mesh as a fence is not new. The material is used as a shelter on a construction site and protection against falling debris. Facade mesh is a fabric woven from a large number of threads, which are made of metal, fiberglass, and polyethylene. In appearance, the material really looks like a soft mesh of different sizes. Today, nets are produced in different colors and with cells of various sizes. Sometimes the surface of the material from which the mesh is made has an additional protective coating.

Often, a façade mesh is thrown over a chain-link fence, turning the fence from transparent to opaque. Our country craftsmen not only use protective mesh to make a “curtain” for the chain-link, but also erect a full-fledged fence.

The advantages of such a fence:

  • built in one or two days by one person;
  • Concrete is not poured under the fence, holes are not dug, holes are not drilled;
  • no need to purchase a profile pipe;
  • no welding or professional tools required;
  • All material and parts are purchased at the nearest construction market and brought to the dacha in the trunk of a car.

For the fence they buy:

  • façade mesh of preferred color and cell size;
  • support columns, a height of two meters, a column length of 3 meters, they are made of sawn rods of smooth reinforcement;
  • steel cable “four” in a polyvinyl chloride sheath;
  • thin twine on a reel and nylon twine “six”.

Before installing the posts, they are treated (painted, anti-corrosion agent applied). The posts are driven into the ground with a sledgehammer and connected to each other in four lines with twine. Twists are made from thick copper wire in two turns at the upper ends of the posts - this way the twine will not “fly off”. The twine is stretched from bottom to top.

Then the cable is launched tangentially - this compensates for the lengthening/shortening of the cable length in cold winters. The cable does not stretch, but sags by 1 cm on each span. Its tension is achieved by twisting it with twine. The facade mesh is thrown onto the resulting base and its lower part is grabbed with twine. Instead of twine, you can strengthen it with tacks made of plastic ties. But do not tighten it completely, but provide one and a half centimeters of free play.

Important! The protective mesh is tacked at the bottom. It is not screwed to the posts. Otherwise, the wind will tear the mesh in stuck places.

This mesh fence is lightweight, opaque and inexpensive. The mesh allows air to pass through. Therefore there is no windage. During hurricane winds, the fence does not fall, but only bends by 2-3 centimeters. But due to the elasticity of the columns, it instantly returns to its original position. The facade mesh almost does not fade in the sun, does not flap, does not tear, and only sways slightly.

You won't be able to climb over the mesh fence - the reinforcement posts are springy. The lower edge is raised if necessary (for example, for cutting grass).

If there is a hole in the fence fabric or it has faded a little, then there is no need to change the entire mesh. It is enough to buy the cheapest roll of facade mesh and transfer it to the old canvas. And the fence is like new!

The fencing fabric follows the terrain of the area, flowing around any unevenness. Air flows pass through the cells and stagnant areas do not form, which is important for plant development.

And although the installation is simple, it is worth paying attention to the recommendations that were developed during the operation of the mesh fence.

  1. To ensure that the outer posts are supported when tensioned and not deflected, an additional spacer post is driven in at an angle of 45 degrees.
  2. It is also recommended to buy a mesh with a width of four meters and a density of 75 to 90 g/m². The mesh is placed on the base in two layers. The double mesh is stronger and more technologically advanced when installing: it was thrown over and forgotten, without thinking about how to secure its upper edge.

A double-layer façade mesh provides better protection from prying eyes than a single-layer mesh, albeit of double density. If you use two meshes, the canvases will overlap each other, and this will make the budget fence completely opaque.

DIY installation work

Building a cheap fence with your own hands is not difficult. However, due to the numerous requirements for its appearance, this issue will have to be agreed upon both with the neighbor and with the local administration. From 2022, the latter decides which structures are allowed to be erected and which are not.

Marking and installation of pillars

Between adjacent areas, the fence should go exactly along the boundary. It is advisable to establish this boundary using documents, since if the fence is placed incorrectly, it will have to be demolished.

Between the site and the roadway, the distance from the fence to the road is determined by general and administrative requirements. In this case, additional factors must be taken into account. For example, if a gate in a fence opens outward, its opening should not interfere with the movement of the road or neighbors.

The area is usually marked with pegs . First install the corner ones, then the intermediate ones and pull the cord.

The foundation is made using these marks. For a fence on a frame, a continuous strip base is not necessary. It is enough to securely fasten the poles. To do this, calculate the distance between the supports - depending on the size of the sheet and the cross-section of the pipe. These places are marked and holes are drilled at least 70 cm deep . Sand and crushed stone 20 cm thick are compacted at the bottom, the end of the pillar is coated with mastic or drying oil, placed in a hole and filled with concrete .

Frame construction

Before pouring, the pillars are checked for verticality. While the concrete has not set, you can adjust the position of the support, so the check is performed a second time. Further work is carried out after 2-3 weeks, when the concrete gains strength.

  1. Pipes of a smaller cross-section are cut according to the size of the section. They serve as horizontal joists.
  2. Weld the logs at the top and bottom of the supports. Top and bottom retreat 5–10 cm.
  3. Prime the structure. The soil dries within 1 day.
  4. The pillars are covered with lids or caps on top to prevent debris and water from getting inside.

The logs can be bolted rather than welded. This connection is considered more durable.

Frame covering

Installation is simple, but you need to follow the step-by-step instructions exactly.

  1. Polycarbonate sheets are cut to size.
  2. At the fastening points, drill holes with a diameter 2 mm larger than required. This prevents material deformation during thermal expansion. The hole should be 4 cm from the edge, the distance between the holes should be 30 cm.
  3. Place the sheet on the frame and secure it loosely. Use special self-tapping screws with thermal washers. The sheets are joined together loosely, but with a gap of 5 mm.
  4. An end profile is put on the end part of the sheet or a tape is glued - it protects the polycarbonate from moisture getting inside.
  5. At the last stage, remove the protective film from the sheets.

Such a fence is beautiful in itself, but it can be effectively decorated by attaching forging elements.

Final work

If a polycarbonate structure does not provide for any finishing work, the same cannot be said about other options.

A wooden fence needs additional protection . Before work, the fence elements are impregnated with antiseptics and treated with a primer. After assembling the fence, the structure should be primed again. The fence can be painted, impregnated with stain, or varnished. This procedure will have to be repeated once every few years to prevent the appearance of rot and fungi.

A fence made of corrugated sheets also needs additional priming and painting . During fastening, especially by welding, the protective coating of both posts and sheets is damaged. At least the mounting points need to be repainted.

Chain-link mesh needs painting after several years of use. The galvanized layer wears out over time and the steel begins to rust, so it is better to paint the fence periodically.

Inexpensive metal fencing

Let's consider options for fencing the territory with metal structures.

Chain-link fence

The cheapest metal fences are structures made from chain-link mesh. In appearance, it seems that such a fence is easy to climb over. But the apparent insecurity is deceptive: it is impossible to climb over the net. You can only get into the area fenced with chain-link mesh with metal scissors.

Chain-link mesh is made by interweaving steel rods. Such a structure is known to any summer resident. Often the entire area except the front part is fenced with a mesh. A fence is being erected there from expensive building materials.

Even a non-professional can build a fence from chain-link mesh. Metal, wooden or reinforced concrete pillars are suitable for installing the mesh. Installation takes minimal time. It is enough to mark the area for the fence, dig in the posts and attach a chain-link mesh to them.

The mesh, which is made by hot-dip galvanizing, will last five to ten years longer in a fence compared to a conventional chain-link mesh.

Advantages:

  • ease of installation;
  • light and air penetrate perfectly.

Minuses:

  • there is no shade and protection from prying eyes;
  • if the integrity is broken, it poses a threat to children and pets.

Disadvantages include rapid corrosion of the mesh. Therefore, you need to choose galvanized mesh or Euro mesh, which has a protective polymer layer.

Fences made from welded mesh are also popular among summer residents. Compared to chain-link, welded mesh is stronger, because thick wire is used for its production.

There are many manufacturers of turnkey sectional fencing that use welded mesh. In the simplest versions, the mesh is not even attached to the frame. For attachment, clamps are used, which are selected to match the diameter of the profile pipe that acts as a fence post.

In recent years, it has become fashionable to use this type of fence using welded mesh, such as gabions. Essentially, wire baskets of various sizes and shapes are filled with natural stone. Most often, gabions are used as retaining walls. But gabions are also used when constructing a fence with “dead” spans.

Such a fencing structure is more accessible than a stone fence. And the advantage is that gabions do not require a foundation, like a fence made of brick or stone. If necessary, the gabion is disassembled and moved to another location.

Inexpensive fencing also includes welded fences made of square rods or smooth reinforcement.

Options for fencing structures made from plastic bottles

decorating a chain-link fence with multi-colored plastic bottles

Today, many ways to build bottle fences are known, and our craftsmen are coming up with new interpretations of them.

Decorative border

Plastic bottles have found themselves in visual zoning. This fence is small in height and is made by simply digging bottles into the ground. It imitates a border rather than a full-fledged fence, however, its main function is decoration and such a height of the structure is quite enough. To achieve maximum decorative effect, bottles can be filled not with sand, but with colored pebbles or colored broken glass.

On a wire

transparent fence made of plastic bottles at the dacha

Don’t know what to use to make an inexpensive fence for the front garden near your dacha?
Use bottles collected like beads on a wire. This is a wonderful way to adjust the height of the fence. You can surround the front garden with a low, waist-high fence, and drive it around the site at full human height . The combination will look great, especially if you play with the shades of the bottles. To prevent structural elements from bunching up and spoiling the appearance of the entire fence, after placing another bottle on the wire, tie it in a knot.

Plastic sheet

A method rarely used because it is labor intensive. The canvas is removed from the trimmed bottle. In fact, this is its middle part. The pieces are connected into a single whole using a stapler. The finished sections are attached to supports like a chain-link mesh. You can also make a cozy gazebo from such canvases, then you will get a whole architectural plastic ensemble on the site.

Fencing rack

high fence made of plastic bottles. lubricated with glue

The construction of such a fence begins with the installation of support posts along the perimeter of the fenced area. The slats will subsequently be attached to these supports. This will need to be done in such a way that their arrangement resembles shelving. The surfaces of the makeshift rack are thickly smeared with glue and bottles filled with sand are placed on them. Instead of glue, you can use screws and screw the structural elements from the bottom and lid. The fence is not very strong, but as a purely symbolic fence it justifies itself.

Glass containers

a fence made of glass containers allows you to show your creativity and lay out any pattern

Not only plastic bottles, but also their glass counterparts can be used in fence building. The technology for laying glass containers will be somewhat different from those described above. In order for the building elements to hold firmly, you will need to use cement mortar to fix them. The first row of bottles is laid out with the bottoms out, and the second row with the bottoms inward. Checkerboard masonry technique. The bottles of each subsequent row should fit into the recesses formed during the formation of the first layer. You can show your imagination and lay out the bottles with a pattern, inscription, or ornament. To do this, you will need to have a supply of colored glass containers. Glass bottles can also be strung on wire. To do this, a hole is made in their bottoms with a diamond drill. We will get a fence of a picket sample, only with glass pickets.

Lids

“For a fence of small height, 17-18 thousand elements will be required”

What else can you use to make an inexpensive fence for your dacha? For example, from the caps of the notorious plastic bottles. However, tin lids can also be assembled into small sections. Did you think it was impossible to surprise you anymore? So, practice will prove the opposite.

colorful fence made of caps

A fence made of lids looks very elegant, unusual, catchy and simply attracts attention. Doing such a miracle around the entire perimeter may turn out to be expensive in terms of collecting the source material. On average, a small height fence will require 17-18 thousand elements! The figure is impressive, but if you use the idea as decorative inserts in other types of fences or design a gate or wicket in this manner, then the effect will be no less powerful, especially if you try and assemble the lids in the form of even a simple pattern.

Tires

Finding a sufficient number of old tires will not be difficult. Since used tires must be sent for special processing, for which we have very few enterprises due to the toxicity and low profitability of production, the products often live out their life in the territories of service stations. There you can buy them for pennies, and even arrange delivery.

a fence made from tires is one of the most inexpensive options for fencing a summer cottage

You can lay out tires in a fence structure in different ways, but the most interesting, especially for a summer cottage, is vertical. The tires of the first row are thoroughly dug into the ground. They will serve as a basis. The elements placed in the next row are fastened together with screws and fixed to the ones below them.

In order for the tires to stand stably, you need to move them slightly during installation. This will allow you to clearly fall into the recesses formed by the bottom row. Also, for thoroughness, the tires are filled with earth. The resulting unique pockets will become excellent flowerpots for planting climbing plants, lawn grass, flowers, and cereals. In addition to this wonderful way to decorate a nondescript hedge, tires can be painted in different colors or decorated in another acceptable way.

Plants

hedge with arch

“If you want to create a fence from trees, use low-growing and fast-growing species.”

The fence can grow on its own. A hedge has one very important advantage over other types of fences - it does not require repairs. Every year the trees and bushes that form it will only become stronger, taller, thicker, more magnificent. A fence that is in bloom or simply delights with a riot of greenery is always aesthetically pleasing. It is better to use shrubs as component elements. They don't need to shape their crowns and make sure they don't grow too tall.

tall cypress hedge

To ensure that the green fence also serves as protection, take care of its width. The types of shrubs used should branch well, respond adequately to pruning, have dense foliage, be frost-resistant and, ideally, have thorns. Thickets of rosehip, joster, blackberry, jujube, climbing rose, and sea buckthorn will become an insurmountable obstacle. Lilac and Chinese cherry will perfectly dilute this planting.

What else can you use to make an inexpensive green fence for your dacha? Unusually noble hedges are made from boxwood, valuable conifers, and juniper, but their formation will take ten years. This is due to the slow growth of such plant varieties.

a spirea hedge will fit perfectly into the overall landscape of a summer cottage

If you want to create a fence from trees, use low-growing and fast-growing species. Here you will have to control the growth and development of individuals in order to have time to form their crowns into an “impenetrable jungle.” To do this, the growth tops are taken to the side and intertwined with similar shoots of neighboring plants. The tightly woven crowns can be given any shape by resorting to a topiary haircut. Willows, acacias, mulberries, and willows are good in this role.

Sculpture

Looking at this original fence, you get the feeling of being in the Middle Ages. It’s difficult to even think of what to call such creativity, but the fact that it is original and unconventional is unambiguous. Haven't you decided yet what to use to make an inexpensive fence for your dacha? Try to implement something like this.

The essence of the idea is to use large-sized ancient Greek amphoras to fence the area. They will be an analogue of supports. The intersupport sections will be branches of climbing plants. Grapes cope well with this task.

a fence made of amphorae will emphasize the classic style of a summer cottage

Naturally, no one suggests you go on an excavation in search of rare vessels. They can be cast from concrete. With some skill, it’s not difficult to do this on your own. If you don’t have such skills, a specialized workshop will help out. If you are not eager to bother with planting living plants in amphorae, you can improvise a fence from cut dry branches, having previously painted them in the colors of noble metals: gold, silver, bronze.

It is worth noting that although the fence in this interpretation will look great, the branches will not last long. They will quickly lose their decorative appeal. Perhaps it is worth combining amphoras with forging or chain-link? In terms of effectiveness, the fence will only benefit from this, and you will get rid of the need for its annual restoration.

Abstraction

picket fence decorated with edged round timber

Fences of this type are the prerogative of people with developed imagination and spatial thinking.
For them, assembling such a structure will not be difficult. There will be no need for special geometric knowledge, because balls, cubes, parallelograms, pyramids and cones will be simply bodies that will need to be harmoniously distributed in the plane of the sections .
It is important to ensure that the fence is well supported. In this case, you need to use metal poles. They are dug quite deep into the ground. If you have never done anything like this, it is worth scrolling through the thematic material. After the supports are dug in, they are connected into one line of the mortgage, which can be used as strong wire, reinforcing rods, or poles. These mortgages will become the supporting link on which the decorative elements you have prepared will be hung. You can use different-sized balls as decoration and filling. It would probably not be entirely correct to talk about the special practicality of such a structure, but from the point of view of originality, it will give odds to the mass of non-standard fencing structures.

Euro picket fencing

When your site is blown by strong winds, you should choose a European picket fence for fencing. It is a structure made of galvanized steel strips. Convenient design allows you to withstand different wind loads. The steel strips have a stylish look as they are coated with decorative paint. This reliable and practical fence is perfect for small and medium-sized areas. Many summer residents place street lighting on the fence.

Advantages:

  • long service life (at least 20 years);
  • the material does not rot;
  • no need for painting;
  • Euro picket fence is resistant to weather conditions;
  • It is lightweight and easy to transport.

Minuses:

  • requires lengthy installation;
  • it can be stolen and sold for metal.

It is necessary to install a European picket fence with non-sharp, rolled edges. This way you can avoid injuries to animals and children.

A European picket fence is assembled from many planks. To place them evenly, you need to use a template. Installation will require a lot of time and materials. For example, you will need at least 20 self-tapping screws per 1 meter of structure. For work, it is better to buy self-tapping screws with rivets or with a press washer. The width of the gap between the strips is easy to adjust.

The euro picket fence, which is coated with powder paint, is uniform in color on both sides. It looks equally beautiful both inside and outside.

Fences made of profile sheets

When the area on the front side needs to be closed from prying eyes, protected from penetration and burglary, then corrugated sheets for walls have no competitors. The sheets are made from thin sheet steel. To give strength, sheets are made with stiffening ribs. The corrugated sheet is also treated with a special anti-corrosion agent. Advantages of the material:

  • The profiled sheet has good wear resistance: it does not fade or rot;
  • relatively inexpensive;
  • does not burn, no special care is needed;
  • can last up to 20 years;
  • during operation there is no need to paint it or treat it with an antiseptic;
  • profiled sheets are easy to install;
  • the material has good soundproofing qualities;
  • Profiled sheets are available in various design options: wood, brick, stone, etc.;
  • The design element is easily replaceable.

A fence made from corrugated sheets looks stylish and impressive. To install it, a strip foundation is poured. Since the total cost of such a fence is substantial, many summer residents install such a fence only on the front side of the site.

In addition to the price (and for fencing a large area it will be impressive), the profiled sheet also has the following disadvantages:

  • low wind resistance (windage);
  • the appearance of rusty spots on spans;
  • air flow is limited;
  • You won’t be able to paint it yourself (although there is a wide variety of colors on the construction market, both variegated and plain);
  • in places of damage, anti-corrosion properties disappear;
  • large size and weight require ordering special transport for delivery to the site.

The disadvantages do not affect the popularity of the material as a fencing site. As for the construction of the fence, it is quite simple. Transverse logs are welded to the metal posts (they are metal pipes). Sheets of corrugated sheets are attached to the joists. For fastening, it is recommended to buy rivets rather than self-tapping screws. When the fence is higher than two meters, then not two, but three logs are used. This way the structure will be stronger and stronger.

Corrugated sheet

The second most popular fence option that can be found throughout Russia is corrugated board. Many compatriots liked it because of its pleasant appearance, combined with a relatively low price and excellent technical characteristics.

In my opinion, corrugated sheeting can be considered an example of a kind of “fence evolution”, since many summer residents I know who built a summer house in the 90s and installed a classic mesh fence are now replacing it with corrugated sheeting.

Advantages:

  • Huge selection of stylistic solutions.
  • Excellent anti-vandal properties.
  • Large selection of height, thickness and other characteristics.
  • From the street you cannot see what is happening on the site.
  • Nice appearance.
  • Durability.

Flaws:

  • Increased cost (price per m2 starts from 400-500 rubles).
  • Darkens the plants near the fence.
  • If the distance between the supports is too large, it may become deformed and sag.

PVC fences

Such fencing of the territory first appeared on American farms. Polyvinyl chloride fences came to us recently, but they managed to find fans. It’s worth mentioning right away that the material cannot be called cheap. Polyvinyl chloride sheets are made from high-quality plastic, which is additionally reinforced with various additives to increase strength and wear resistance.

Advantages of the material:

  • PVC does not deteriorate under unfavorable conditions: does not rust, does not deform due to temperature changes, does not dry out, does not fade, does not rot;
  • the material does not need painting or treatment to prevent rotting;
  • PVC fencing is safe for human health;
  • The material weighs little and is easy to transport and install.

A polyvinyl chloride fence looks stylish and beautiful. Even a light-colored fence is not a problem on the site - the material is easy to clean with detergents.

Flaws:

  • the material is not natural;
  • the cost is high;
  • It is not always possible to choose the right shade.

Preparing to build a fence

The main task at the preparation stage is the choice of material. The design of the fence, the necessary tools, construction time and costs depend on this. The best option is a polycarbonate fence on a metal frame . Such a structure lasts a long time, looks aesthetically pleasing and is very affordable. Although it will take time to build.

For its construction you need materials :

  • sheets of cellular polycarbonate of the required thickness, transparency and color;
  • concrete for concreting pillars;
  • metal pipes of square or rectangular cross-section with a height of at least 3 m with a fence height of 2 m;
  • waterproofing, formwork boards, reinforcement bars.

Tools you will need:

  • hand drill and shovel;
  • welding machine;
  • electric drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • tape measure, level, plumb line.

Special fasteners for polycarbonate sheets are purchased.

Photo grid for fencing

When a situation arises that the fence around the site is still intact and strong, but has lost its attractiveness, modern technologies will come to the rescue. You will not need to change the entire fence to revive it, and spend money on reinstallation. Using a photo grid will make your fence original and effective:

The new product has many advantages:

  • any defects of the old fence will be hidden (except for obvious flaws in the form of the absence of part of the fence);
  • the photo grid is well ventilated;
  • the material is not afraid of high and low temperatures.

Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting the short service life: only five to seven years.

The photo grid is created on the basis of a banner canvas. It is a reinforced polymer mesh with millimeter cells, onto which an image is applied through photo printing. You can select an image according to your personal preferences. The structure is secured with decorative rings. Photo grids are used on metal and wooden fences, chain-link mesh and corrugated sheets. Also, the photo grid will decorate any gazebo and facade.

The decorative novelty looks great. But a couple of nuances should be taken into account before purchasing the material. Firstly, if the image or tone is not chosen correctly, it will make the fence unattractive and ugly. Therefore, you should understand the compatibility of themes, colors and compositions. The seasonality of the picture is also taken into account: for example, winter looks ridiculous in spring or summer.

Secondly, although polyvinyl chloride is a resistant material and can withstand various types of impacts, a large canvas will still attract vandals. And there is no protection against them. Therefore, the scope of application of the photo grid is limited. It is best to decorate fences in guarded or gated holiday villages, or in private properties with good neighbors.

What else is important to know: How much does a meter of corrugated fence cost? We already know the answer!

The final price of the fence is influenced by both the span materials used and its nature. When the fence is installed solid, it is affected by wind loads. Therefore, reliable supports are used for the fence. Their number and size of the underground part are calculated in the same way as the calculation algorithm for a strip or pile foundation.
