When choosing gates for arranging the entrance to the courtyard of a private house, preference is increasingly given to sliding (sliding) structures. They are practical, durable, and easy to automate to open and close without leaving the car. Using the drawings of sliding gates and instructions for their arrangement, you can make and install the structure yourself.

Advantages and disadvantages

The design of shifting the door leaf away from the opening has a number of advantages over traditional swing gates:

  • Saving space on the site. The gate leaf does not require an opening zone intersecting with the roadway.
  • There is no problem with sagging of the canvas and deformation of loop units.
  • Reliable fixation of the gate in the closed position allows it to be used even under high wind loads.

In addition, it is worth noting the wide selection of possible options for gate panels and a large selection of automation equipment.

Disadvantages include the need for an additional foundation for the supports and the need for the absence of obstacles in the area of the gate. The price of sliding gates is higher than that of swing structures by an average of 10-15%.

Final installation of the gate

The final stage of assembly is attaching the gate after the cladding.

Step-by-step instructions for installing sliding gates with your own hands:

  1. The two carriages are placed at a maximum distance from each other, but within the length of the shank.
  2. Movable rollers are installed in the guide part (on the frame).
  3. The frame is installed on the carriages, leveled, and then the carriages are welded directly to the channel, poured into the concrete base.
  4. Welding work is carried out sequentially, so that if a defect is detected, the installation can be corrected.
  5. The next step is to weld the support rollers to the profile pipe on the brick pillars.

If necessary, rough weld seams are removed, defects and irregularities are corrected and eliminated.

Kinds

Sliding gates can be divided into several subtypes, differing in design: suspended and cantilever. Suspended ones are more often used for installation in the openings of hangars and other technical buildings. They are reliable, but their installation is associated with some difficulties and requires special equipment.

Cantilever gates are easier to install and, due to the guide devices located below, allow them to be installed outdoors. They are not afraid of snow or dust, and are resistant to strong winds. The weight of the structure is distributed on the foundation located on the side of the opening.

For small gates, screw piles can be used instead of a concrete base.

Construction materials

The main component of the gate is a metal leaf. Its quantity depends on the height of the fence and the size of the entrance. For construction you will need the following components:

  • Guide rail . It is an iron beam with a thickness of 3 mm and a length of six meters.
  • Plugs and limiters to protect against dirt, debris, snow, etc.
  • Carriages with rollers - thanks to them, the metal sheet will move smoothly along the rail.
  • End rollers with traps are necessary to prevent the blade from falling out and will limit its sliding.

The number of components is strictly individual. You will have to calculate it, as well as the amount of canvas, yourself, based on the size of your gate.

The following algorithm will help you roughly figure out how many components you will need:

  • The length of the canvas does not exceed 5 meters - fittings are purchased that can withstand up to 600 kg of load.
  • The length of the canvas does not exceed 6 meters - fittings are purchased that can withstand up to 700 kg, etc.

In addition to the equipment, it is necessary to prepare tools for construction and all materials for the foundation.

Design Features

Calculation of the design of sliding gates begins with the construction of a diagram. It is necessary to determine the required width and height of the door leaf, based on which you can then select the type of infill.

After this, a counterweight is calculated to prevent the gate from “picking” down in the closed position.

For gates with a large area, it is not recommended to use wood as a material, since the size of the counterweight and the total weight of the gate will be high. This will require an increase in the foundation.

After these steps, you can begin making drawings of sliding gates. The easiest option is to contact one of the manufacturing companies.

What does the structure consist of?

Sliding gates contain the following parts necessary for installing the gate:

  • New Year in the yard: how to beautifully decorate the yard with your own hands!

  • How to make a modern landscape design with your own hands?
  • Microgreens at home

  • guide beams that act as a load-bearing beam;
  • roller supports;
  • a roller that can be removed;
  • windage and load regulators - catchers;
  • a bracket is used as a fastening to protect the gate from swaying;
  • a support that provides mobility to the doors and a stand for it.

Also an integral part of sliding gates on a cantilever basis is the foundation. Supports for the rollers are placed on it, and the load of the carrier is distributed on them. The rollers themselves are placed inside the console.

The doors themselves must also meet certain requirements. Such as stability, reliability in bad weather, strong winds, some rigidity. All these requirements ensure the functioning of the gate leaves.

The composition of the structure can be visually represented by a diagram of a sliding gate.

Automation of opening and closing

There are many options on the market for remote control of sliding gates. The drive is usually located in the lower part near the roller bearings. To transfer force from it to the door leaf, a gear rack is installed.

It is recommended to equip automatic gates with a photocell system to prevent injury or damage to equipment when closing them. The sensors are installed in the gate opening and, when the contact line is blocked, they block commands received by the drive.
