Near each apartment building there is a small plot of land that can be used to create a flower bed. Flowering plants create a special atmosphere of comfort. In order for the flower garden to have an attractive appearance, plants are selected taking into account their flowering period, climatic conditions and soil composition. Plants look attractive if they are harmoniously grouped taking into account their size, shape and color. Flowering species can be combined with decorative foliage specimens, emphasizing the beauty of each plant. When organizing flower beds at the entrance of an apartment building, it is important not to overload the composition with excess abundance.
Basic elements of front garden decor
The front garden separates the house from the street and demonstrates the tastes and social status of the owners.
This is a place for children's games, family and friendly gatherings. To make the area in front of the house comfortable and cozy, it is recommended to place certain objects on it.
A hedge will help isolate you from the outside world. It can replace a traditional fence. A hedge has a number of advantages over a fence. It is a natural extension of the garden, vegetable garden or flower beds located on the site. Plants have good sound insulation and protect against road dust. The green hedge is opaque and easy to care for. It will be an excellent backdrop for the design of the local area, as it goes well with any of its elements. If you plant evergreens, an emerald “fence” will liven up your yard on dreary winter days.
Classic involves creating a flower bed or flower garden.
Competent and thoughtful planting of flowers will make the yard colorful, blooming and fragrant from early spring to late autumn.
A small artificial pond or fountain will create a special microclimate on the site. The flowing water and lighting will help you relax after a busy day.
Paths are an important element of the territory. They should be comfortable, durable and beautiful.
If the territory allows, you can place a gazebo in the front garden. It will become a favorite place to relax, especially in hot and rainy weather.
Skillfully selected garden accessories will make the area look lived-in and well-groomed, as well as add individuality.
Favorite games in our yard
If the developer chooses equipment for the local area based on his ideas about what kind of yard future residents will want to see, then the management company makes an order based on the opinion of the residents themselves, what specific small forms they need for a comfortable life. From order to order, manufacturers figure out what products an average playground set should consist of.
“Creating a full-fledged yard from scratch is an interesting, complex job where you need to take into account all the customer’s wishes,” says Andrey Vostryakov, director of the trade and production company TD Master. — If our client is not a developer, but a management company or HOA, then they act on behalf of residents who initiate the installation of a new playground and select products for it, and the choice most often falls on swings, carousels, and play complexes.
When the developer leaves the set up of the site entirely at our discretion, we always include simple forms - balancing swings, carousels, slides, and always benches for adults to relax, trash cans. The selection of elements for a playground is influenced by the layout of the yard area - where children play without adult supervision, we recommend reducing the number of non-static products to a minimum. If space allows, we suggest installing multifunctional gaming complexes. In the yard where children of all ages from 3 to 20 play, sports elements will be popular - horizontal bars, monkey bars.”
Using a hedge
If deciduous plants are chosen for the hedge, then after the leaves fall it may become partially transparent. In order for the “fence” to remain opaque in winter, it is necessary to select densely branched plants (elderberry, snowberry, willow, acacia, turf).
For lovers of geometrically correct lines, a molded hedge will suit you. It requires plants that are easy to trim and form a dense crown. Deciduous plants include oak, hawthorn or hornbeam, and evergreen plants include thuja, yew, and boxwood.
Plants need to begin to be processed immediately after planting. The exception is coniferous species. They can be formed after 2 years.
Bushes or trees are carefully given the desired shape using pruning shears. You can't let them stretch upward. Limiting growth will help form a denser, denser crown. The top of the fence should always be narrower than the base. This will make the plants more resistant to gusts of wind and prevent branches from breaking under the weight of snow.
The border fence performs a decorative function. It is formed from trimmed bushes not exceeding 50 cm in height.
Fences can be single-row, double-row or three-row. Single-row border hedges are used to decorate flower beds, paths or separate decorative zones. Three-row fences are suitable for areas located near a road with active traffic. They are formed in a cascade of plants of different heights. The tallest plants are located on the outer part, and the shortest plants are located on the inner part. Such triple protection near the ground will reliably protect you from dust and dirt.
A hedge can be used to highlight a recreation area or to disguise an unsightly structure by forming walls from plants.
Table.
Boys play with cars, children play with dolls, they all draw together - you can make a table for all this. It can be made from different materials, but wood is mainly used for these purposes. We create seating around the table. Can be done at different heights - lower for kids, higher for parents.
Wooden garden furniture
We draw on the table and seating areas: flowers, animals, the underwater world or insects and paint them with bright colors. Cover the top with clear varnish. If your children were born in the summer, then it’s a great idea to celebrate their birthday outdoors at the table.
How to plant flower beds and flowerbeds?
When planning to arrange a front garden, you should select the most suitable place for the flower garden. It is advisable to choose a site on the south side of the house on a hill so that water does not accumulate in the ground. There should be no drafts in the flowerbed. Many plants cannot tolerate them. A place that is exposed to the scorching rays of the sun all day is also not very good.
When choosing a site for a flower garden, you should take into account the general appearance of the yard. The ideal place for flowers may be in a remote corner. Whereas it is recommended to decorate the central part with flowers: the path to the house, the porch and areas under the walls near the entrance.
It should be selected depending on the lighting and type of soil on the site. It is necessary to take into account their flowering period and color. You should not choose plants that are difficult to care for. Unpretentious flowers look no worse.
It is advisable to give preference to long-flowering species. Flowers with different flowering periods should be planted in one flower bed. In spring, the flower garden will be decorated with petals of tulips, daffodils and irises. In summer, peonies and cornflowers will bloom. Later, daisies and roses will appear. And in the fall, dahlias and asters will open. Blooming one by one, the flowers will decorate the front garden until frost.
It is necessary to place plants in a flower garden depending on their height and color. Taller specimens are planted in the middle of the flowerbed or under the wall. The closer to the edge, the lower and smaller the flowers should be.
Bright flowers in warm shades are placed in the center of the flower bed and a pattern is created from them. Decorative foliage plants and flowers in cool tones form the background and edge of the flower bed. White flowers separate groups of plants and form the outline of the design.
Plastic bottles.
Many drinks are sold in plastic bottles, they have different sizes. Don't rush to throw plastic bottles in the trash. You can decorate your yard with them. How? For example, make them:
– funny figures; Plastic bottles can be painted and turned into beautiful animals: cats, dogs, piglets, frogs, elephants, or you can make flowers, palm trees, or make a lake out of them.

Interesting solution: artificial pond and fountain
To install an artificial pond and fountain, you need to choose a place protected from the wind to create a recreation area around it. At the same time, this design element should be visible, since it is an exclusive decoration of the local area.
It is better to place a pond or fountain near the flower bed. It is advisable that there are no trees nearby. Their roots can disrupt the structure, and the fruits will fall into the water and clog it.
A pond can be created in any shape by first digging a pit of the required size. Its bottom is covered with sand and reinforced with bricks or stones. A thick film is laid on top. Around the pond, the film is pressed and masked with decorative stone or other elements. It’s even easier to make a pond from an old bathtub, trough or basin.
In order for a fountain to appear in a pond, it is necessary to install a surface or submersible pump. If you make underwater lighting or place garden lights nearby, the place will become very cozy and cute. In summer, you can add goldfish to the pond.
In the middle of the site, in front of the entrance, a stationary fountain will look great. To install it, you need a special structure made of artificial stone.
Bookcase.
In many cities, there is a closet in the courtyard or park area containing books, magazines, newspapers and coloring books. If you are a person with golden hands, then make the cabinet yourself. You can also not throw out the old cabinet, but put it or a cabinet in the yard, with the inscription “free library” so that people can understand it. Many people will bring literature and put it in the closet, others will read.
Bookcase in the yard
This idea will be very popular on the territory of hospitals, where stays are sometimes long, and, unfortunately, there are no libraries or reading rooms in hospitals yet.
Design of garden paths
To make the paths convenient, at the planning stage you need to determine the most popular routes and choose a suitable trajectory for them. It is recommended to lay paths so that it is convenient to get to outbuildings, to approach flower beds, flowerbeds and a pond. You should not make a path under the trees - walking, pushing apart the branches, is not very comfortable. You can build a circular walking path.
A straight road will make the object to which it leads visually closer. A winding path will add volume and depth to the yard. The recommended width of the path is at least 50 cm. If you plan to use a utility or construction wheelbarrow, the width should be increased to 70 cm.
To prevent puddles from appearing on the way, the transverse profile is made convex. The slope to the sides should be 2-3°. Any material is suitable for paving the road. You can purchase ready-made slabs or use leftover construction waste. Paths with combined surfaces look very beautiful. For example, colored tiles with gravel.
Original gazebos
The gazebo should be located a short distance from all communications and from the kitchen. This will allow you to use it as a dining room and a comfortable place to relax. It is advisable that the gazebo offers a view of a flower garden or pond.
Before installing the structure, it is necessary to remove the top layer of soil and level the surface. It is important to ensure soil drainage so that the water under the gazebo does not stagnate.
The gazebo can be made from any material: brick, wood, stone, metal. It is often constructed from vines attached to a metal or wooden frame. You can use shrubs to create a gazebo. Such a natural structure will provide shade and coolness in the summer heat, but with the arrival of autumn it will lose its properties.
The structure is an addition to the house, so its style should be in harmony with the style of the main structure. Gazebos can be open or closed. A closed building has a foundation, doors and walls. You can install water and heating in it, as well as install a fireplace. During the summer, the glass is removed from the frames. Such a gazebo will become a comfortable place to relax in any weather and season.
Old and unnecessary things.
Things wear out, become unusable and can also be used to decorate the yard. You can plant plants in old shoes or an unnecessary cage. Decorate tree branches with soft toys. If you have boxes for fruits and vegetables, you can make a shelf for storing toys, books in the yard, or make a sleeping place for stray cats.
Shelves made from boxes for landscaping the yard
Durable fabric is suitable for making a hammock in the yard. You can use fluorescent paint to paint the crown of a tree, stones, jars, fences, steps, near the entrance. During the day, the paint will absorb light, and at night they will glow.
Hammock for relaxation
The article contained many ideas for arranging a regular yard. By adopting them, you can decorate your yard, make it interesting, practical, functional for yourself, children and others, and give old things a second life.
Implementing ideas with children is a good way to spend time; children will spend more time outside, in their cozy yard, rather than at home!
Jewelry made from natural stones
When choosing a sculpture for a site, you should adhere to the chosen style. Classic sculpture will be appropriate in traditional landscape design. Plants should be planted around the figure to make it stand out from the general background, but not distract attention from it. The area should not be overloaded with sculptures, as this is the dominant decoration of the garden.
Decorations made from natural stones and ground cover plants will highlight the delicate taste of the owner. You can install several large stones in the garden, burying them one third into the soil. At their base they make sand or gravel backfill.
In the evening, the paths decorated with lanterns look very beautiful. Spotlights are installed in a flower garden or directed at a sculpture.
Unusual tree.
If you travel around cities, you know that in many cities there are unusual trees where you can tie a piece of paper with a wish, hang a satin ribbon or a lock. You can also hang old keys after painting them with bright paint.
Bright tree decorated with ribbons
Such an unusual tree will decorate the yard, will be a landmark of the city, and every resident of the area or guest will want to take a photo and tie a ribbon as a souvenir.

The calling card of each house is the front garden or the area in front of the house. In the modern understanding of landscape designers, a front garden is a beautifully designed area that fences off the house from the road, and not just flower beds. Today, many owners of estates and cottages hide their yard from the outside world behind high fences. In this case, it is quite difficult to talk about arranging a full-fledged front garden. However, some craftsmen take the front garden outside the fence almost into the street. Landscaping the area in front of the house is an important stage in landscape design. This article will talk about how to design a front garden and what is important to consider.
If you decide to plan the landscaping of the area in front of the house, then start with the entrance area. If it is small in size, don’t worry! In fact, even from a small area near the entrance you can make a beautiful area. The main thing is to choose the right plants.
The smaller the area of the front garden, the more expressive and brighter the plants planted on it should be. With the correct arrangement of flowering plants, you can even visually increase the space.
If you have a lawn between the house and the fence, then you can make a front garden of flowers next to the porch. As a result, you should end up with a single composition of the house, flower bed and paved path. This is due to the fact that the front garden has an inextricable connection with the architectural design of the house. This means that what kind of building is what the front garden is. For example, a European front garden consists of a trimmed lawn, geometric hedges, and small decorative elements. While a Russian front garden against the backdrop of an old wooden dacha will look more organic with slightly adjusted shrubs, flowers and conifers.
If you are decorating a front garden near the walls of the house, then plant climbing plants. It could be wisteria, campsis or common honeysuckle. They will serve as a background for other colors and will decorate the walls of the house. As for the porch, you can decorate it with flowers in hanging pots. If you want to create a fairytale atmosphere, then decorate your house with hydrangea and lavender bushes.
If you are planning to install an arch or pergola in front of the gate, then it would be appropriate to plant climbing roses here. If the area in front of the house is large enough, then you can make a small pond and an alpine slide here. You can complement the composition with dwarf coniferous bushes.
These tips and your own imagination will help you decorate the area in front of your house professionally. It is worth noting that this creative process will bring you a lot of joy!
If you decide to separate the area near the house from the neighbors and the road, then this can be done simply by a fence, but, for example, by a hedge. It can be placed around the perimeter of the site or in certain places. A hedge can be made from perennial shrubs or from trees of different heights. This will make the fence impenetrable. For these purposes, you can use fruit trees such as apple, plum and mulberry. Representatives of the coniferous world look no less impressive. For example, cedar, juniper, fir, pine, etc. If your hedge is made of shrubs, then it is better to give preference to roses, currants, honeysuckle or lilac. So, you can enjoy not only the appearance of the hedge, but also its aroma.
If you want to make a flowerbed behind a fence, then you should think about what to grow in it. These can be not only flowers, but also shrubs. It all depends on your personal preferences.
The area behind the fence is most susceptible to overgrowing by weeds. This is due to the fact that it is located in an open space. Therefore, if you decide to make a flowerbed behind a fence, you must subsequently pay enough attention to caring for it.
Before you start improving the flower bed behind the fence, completely remove wild plants and their roots. This can be done using special means. Then prepare the soil and plant the plants in it. Next, you need to regularly water the plants and clear the area of weeds.
Proper design of the area in front of the house makes it possible to draw a boundary between a public street and a private property. At the same time, it serves as a decoration for the home. Therefore, it needs to be given enough attention and improved.
The type of yards is determined by marketers
“Regulatory documents still do not strictly regulate elements of courtyard landscaping that have already become traditional,” notes Olga Mokh, customer service specialist at SM.CITY LLC. “According to the designers, it is possible not to equip the playground in the yard with any small forms at all, just fill it with sand or gravel, and in the project indicate: “Sports ground for playing ball.” The developer is also not obligated to plant trees - he has the right to limit himself to a lawn when landscaping the yard. All improvement remains on the conscience of the customer and in his marketing interests, therefore, during the implementation process, the project is often adjusted, as is now happening, for example, with the objects of “Green Town”. When the designers prepared documentation for the construction of the “Green Town” for us, we accepted it in its original form without significant adjustments; as soon as it got closer to construction, we began to make changes to the project. Even now, in some courtyards we continue to refine individual details - we are deciding how to arrange them more functionally, together with designers we are looking for how to move or enlarge individual zones. From a formal point of view, we can limit ourselves to installing a lawn, but in reality we take a different path - we consult with landscapers on where to plant bushes, lay out a lawn, what tree species to choose.”
According to Alexander Vasilyev, Marketing Director of SM.CITY LLC, marketing creates a task for builders - what a house, yard, apartments should be like. Marketers need to understand what image people who will buy a home should have, what attitude they will have towards it. And having understood, create the most favorable impression on the residents, including the yard space.
“Everyone is used to designing based on SNIPs: there should be a utility area in the yard and a certain number of square meters of lawn, but the resulting projects lack the usual logic,” notes Alexander Vasiliev. “We went further and began to think about how children, teenagers, grandmothers, and mothers with strollers walking in the yard would feel, and how to make the yard as comfortable as possible for them within the framework of existing standards.”
As the marketer explained, she began to define for herself the principles of competent organization of courtyard space 5 years ago, when the first houses of the “South Bank” were being built. Then a company that was engaged in landscape design and had experience in designing public gardens and other recreational areas came to the aid of the builders. “We implemented the ideas that were laid down at that moment in the first stage of the “South Bank” and took from there several new principles for ourselves, so that on the courtyards of the “Green Town” we no longer worked with landscape designers, but with designers.”
Landscaping in front of the house: what does it consist of?
The most common way to create a landscape design from them is to create a spectacular flower garden in front of the house that blooms all summer. Its style and size are sure to be combined with the general character of the buildings on the summer cottage. The color scheme should be in harmony with the building. That is, not to fade against the background of its walls, but not to dominate either.
The next most popular are and. The latter allow you to add greenery to the front of the house and divide the territory into zones. Garden paths make it possible to move comfortably between buildings. In addition, there will be significantly less dirt and slush in rainy weather.
The landscape in front of the house is decorated in any way. They become the basis of the entire composition. All other design adapts to them: fountain, pool or pond.
Thematic and simply original parts and accessories. These can be figurines of animals or fairy-tale characters, vases and arches, lanterns.
A gazebo or open space helps to create a beautiful area in front of the house. They also serve as a resting place for all the inhabitants of the dacha.
Mini garden.
You can make a mini garden in the yard. To do this, you will need a small basin, decorate the container with plants, a fence, sand, put stones, small animal figurines and small furniture.
Decorating a small garden
You can sit near the garden and change places, move something, water it, take care of it. It will be interesting for children, and it will calm and relax adults.
How to design a front garden in front of a house?
You can start by designing the entrance area and path to the house. It can be wide or narrow, straight or winding. Along the edges of it, arrange a green fence of bushes or create narrow flower beds with low-growing plants. They look stylish on the site for the home, which you can.
The main design of the flower garden in front of the house with your own hands rests on a variety of. They differ in shape and filling with plants. The most common of their types is mixborder. That is, planting with perennial and annual plants that are placed between ornamental shrubs. A mixborder is a flowerbed in front of a house that makes it possible to hide errors in architecture. Because the bushes can be quite tall or even wrap around part of the building.
If the planting is fenced off from the rest of the site by a hedge or adjacent to a wall, then such a front garden in front of the house is called closed. When it is freely visible from all sides and does not contain tall plants, it is considered open. Moreover, the latter often has large areas that are simply green lawns.
The element that completes the design of the front garden in front of the house is considered. Without it, the entire landscape design will be incomplete. The fencing material should be chosen in combination with the overall style of the site. Romantic style requires a wrought iron fence. Wicker fencing will look great in front of a rustic home. Art Nouveau style requires stone fencing of flower beds.
Old tires.
Have the tires on your wheels worn out and are no longer suitable for driving? Don’t rush to get rid of them and throw them in the trash. They can be given a second life and put to use. Make a swan, a car, a caterpillar, a turtle, furniture, a swing, a mini pond or a mini sandbox, a well, or decorate a flower bed with them.

Decorating a flower garden in front of the house: rules for choosing plants
In order for the first beautiful flowerbed in front of the house, made with your own hands, to be a success, you need to adhere to a simple rule. It is recommended to choose unpretentious perennials and ornamental shrubs, and fill the space between them with annual plants.
Shrubs and woody plants on which the design of the front garden in front of the house can be based include:
- common barberry;
- juniper;
- boxwood evergreen;
- Norway maple;
The second rule assumes that there will always be at least one plant that blooms in the mixborder flowerbed. It all starts in April, when crocuses and early tulips with daffodils delight the eye. Ends in late autumn, when chrysanthemums and asters bloom.
As an example of a classic front garden, the following combination of plants is given:
- Salvia brilliant (blooms from July until frost);
- (blooming in June and wilting with frost) it is a perennial plant, but it is used more often as;
- Viola wittrock (blooms in May-June);
- Gray fescue;
- rejected - unpretentious annuals (decorate the flowerbed from June to September);
- Tiger lilies (blooming from late June to August).
In order for the front garden design to be designed correctly, you will need to remember a few more nuances:
- if the flowerbed is laid out in the immediate vicinity of the house, then the plants planted near the walls should be in harmony with their shade;
- a large plot is combined with plants with large leaves, a small area in front of the house requires the use of small-leaved plants;
- To prevent the site from appearing empty in winter, conifers and bushes with bright bark (rose hips, barberries, maples) should be used in the front garden.
Chalk board in the yard.
All children and many adults love to draw. A box of colorful crayons is inexpensive, but where to draw? Most often this is asphalt where cars drive. But you can install a small board on which you can draw in the yard, learn formulas, new foreign words, explain examples, and all this in the fresh air.

What tree should I plant in front of my house?
It is known that they carry a certain energy. Some share their strength with people, while others are able to take away negative energy. Therefore, it is very good to plant landscaping in front of the house with trees.
The first include:
- birch, which calms and relieves depression;
- larch, which can change a person’s outlook on life, restoring his optimism;
- Rowan, which supports the beauty of a woman, patronizes the family;
- maple, which helps restore calm and confidence;
- oak, cedar, pine and acacia.
The second group is represented by: willow with aspen and poplar. It is recommended to plant them in the far corner of the garden so that you can access them as needed rather than constantly.
The area in front of the house is the first thing that a buyer sees before buying real estate, looking at a photo or video, the first thing that guests see when they come to you, the first thing that you see when you come home from work. So is it worth talking about the importance of proper site design? This is a business card that can tell a lot about the homeowner. It's like a video revealing your life principles. In addition, a competent design can delimit an area, for example, separate flower beds from a mailbox.
You can not only entrust the design of the site to professionals, but you can also do it yourself by learning a few techniques and tricks. This article will help you understand the main ones.
The space in front of the house can be characterized in terms of openness. There are closed, open, covered and formal front gardens.
Enclosed areas have a fence between the street and the plants. This could be a fence, a hedge of barberries, thujas, laurels, etc. Open areas do not require obvious fencing. The conditional boundary can be a sidewalk curb or asphalt-ground separation. Owners of an open area can organize a rock garden, lawn or group of shrubs. Covered areas are separated from the street by low bushes: rose hips, roses, barberry, hawthorn.
Design in the local area
The design of a formal area is both simple and challenging because not all plants can live in pots. It is the pots, which can be decorated, for example, with your favorite photos, that determine the formal type of landscape design.
Landscape Design Styles
Romantic style is associated with elegance and sophistication. It is better to plant roses, lavender, rose hips, and lilacs in front of the house. However, before you decide on shrubs, you should evaluate your strength: can you regularly devote time to trimming them?
Rustic is the so-called “grandmother’s” style, which is characterized by laconicism and restraint. Coniferous trees, contrasting with a wooden picket fence, will help in the creation. It is recommended to let several climbing along the facade of the house or the fence of the site.
Rustic
Modern style, or contemporary, is influenced by fashion. Now boxwood rules the roost, followed by yew and privet. The finish should be stone. Look at the photos, of which there are many on the Internet, and evaluate whether this style suits you.
Asian style consists of perennials planted around a rock garden and fountain.
The Mediterranean style is suitable for those who do not want to bother themselves with constantly putting things in order. Some chaos and lack of structure are even welcome. Palm-shaped ones are suitable.
The area in front of the house can be of different sizes. Some people can afford a grove, while others can only afford a couple of flower pots. However, do not forget that it is not recommended to plant trees close to the house, as they block the view and prevent light from entering the room. However, they must be planted in such a way as to protect flowers and shrubs from strong winds.
Small front gardens can be planted with both evergreen perennials and flowers that bloom only once a year - this is a matter of everyone’s taste. Pay attention to begonias, daisies, fuchsias.
Plants
The choice of plants depends not only on their appearance, which is usually visible in the photo of a bag of seeds, but also on weather conditions. So, if the entrance to the house is oriented to the north and north-west, then you need to choose views that are tolerant of the lack of sun. These can be different varieties of hydrangea. And vice versa, when oriented to the south and east, it is necessary to give preference to light-loving plants. These can be bulbous flowers, rose gardens, alpine slides and much more.
- Use decorative elements. When planting plants, do not forget about the use of decorative elements, be it plaster figurines of gnomes, stones, forged elements, frames with your photos or wooden borders.
- Try to choose plants so that some of them bloom in the spring, some in the summer, and some in the fall.
- Try using pruning shears to shape the bushes. By cutting branches in the same style, it is easy to create a new mood for the entire ensemble.
- Remember that the design of the area in front of the house cannot exist on its own; it must resonate with the design of the walls. This is how a frame should emphasize a photo, just as a cover should emphasize the content of a book.
- When decorating the walls of a building in a chic manner, try to make the front garden only a background that emphasizes the design of the walls. With plain walls, you can allow a colorful front garden.
Plot in front of the house
Currently, the process of urbanization is gaining momentum. Increasingly, the urban population is trying to retire to the lap of nature, moving for permanent or temporary residence to a private house located somewhere outside the city. And this is not surprising, because only in this way can you truly relax in all respects - not only physically, but also emotionally and mentally. In view of this, there is a need to make the atmosphere in the house as cozy and comfortable as possible. Moreover, this issue concerns not only the internal arrangement of the house, but also the external one. Therefore, a well-thought-out landscape design in front of the house is one of the most important factors influencing the overall pastime. Moreover, this feature is an indisputable indicator of the taste and understanding of the aesthetic characteristics of the owner himself, and besides, some landscape details can significantly transform the building itself, making it even more attractive.
Planning decisions prompted by observations
Sometimes it is attention to details that designers do not always think about that helps achieve comfort. “We believe that a car should not be physically able to drive onto a lawn, green area or playground,” says Alexander Vasiliev, Marketing Director of SM.CITY LLC. “That’s why in the courtyards of the “South Bank” these areas are surrounded by a concrete fence - special niches in which large trees and shrubs are planted - and in the “Green Town” we included a decorative fence in the project, which is impossible to drive through.”
Where cars will not pass, people will pass, so prudent landscapers anticipate where the walking routes of the yard residents, including the smallest ones, will go. “We happened to see such paths on the playground that lead to nowhere - they simply break off in front of a large lawn area,” recalls Alexander Vasiliev. “From our point of view, it’s wrong to do this, and we made all the paths inside the playgrounds closed, so you can get somewhere along them. Young pedestrians are not averse to being cyclists or rollerbladers, so in each of our yards there is an asphalt ring on which small children can ride - just don’t let them onto the roadway.”
Garden plot design ideas
The area around the house primarily separates private properties from street ones, and can also decorate the housing itself. Today, the arrangement of household plots is not a particular problem; there are many interesting proposals and ideas in this regard. For example, the simplest and most common way is to decorate the area, creating a hedge.
Fountains in front of the house or decorating the area around the house with various figures, statues or other unusual details are becoming increasingly popular.
An integral part of any private home are specially designated recreation areas. The choice is huge, it all depends on the taste preferences of the owner and, accordingly, his financial capabilities.
In this case, the main thing to take into account is an important point - the choice of landscape compositions must necessarily correspond to the style and architectural character of the building.

Rest area
The regulations provide a separate place for adults to relax in the local area. It is really necessary, because, having thought through play areas for children, the developer must provide a place where their parents will be at this time. “We try to place areas for adults with benches and landscaping closer to the children’s playground or playground where small children play,” says Alexander Vasiliev, marketing director of SM.CITY LLC. — By now, we have achieved an understanding of what a proper yard should be like, and we are consistently implementing it even in such small details as choosing the places where and what kind of benches or trash cans should be placed. We also learned from our own mistakes: for example, now we would put different benches in the courtyards of the “South Bank” - without backs, then no one would sit on them. “Green Town” only has benches without backrests, so that they do not break down for as long as possible.”
“If a customer offers us a yard for four houses for landscaping, we will immediately think about where to equip a playground for mothers and grandmothers with benches, flowerpots, and urns near the playground,” explains Andrey Vostryakov, director of the trade and production company TD Master. “We will also look for where to place a separate area for men - with gazebos, tennis tables and domino tables - if only because the vocabulary of communication in adult companies is not intended for children’s ears. It is imperative to provide a separate place for adult groups, otherwise they will occupy the playground and products for children may be damaged.”
Creating a flower garden
Organizing a home flower garden requires compliance with certain conditions, the omission of which can negate all efforts made and spoil the overall picture of landscape design. So, it is important to think through the creation of a flower bed in such a way that its spirit and volume are in good harmony with the architectural direction of the property, and color solutions are selected so that the plants are not too flashy and distract everyone’s attention, but also so that they do not fade against the background of the chosen design. First of all, attention is always paid to the entrance area. Along the path leading to the door on both sides you can plant selected flowers and plants in rows. At the same time, the presence of bright and colorful flowers in the flowerbed will be an ideal option for a home with a restrained style, and if the building has some decorative details, then in this case it is wise to choose a modest color scheme.
Flower garden in front of the house
It would not be amiss to note the fact that a properly designed flower bed can be a successful way to disguise some architectural errors, or simply an excellent option for transforming the landscape design around the house. In such cases, they often resort to. Thanks to the presence of flowers of different types and sizes, this garden composition can become a decoration for any front garden.
Another color scheme is flowers that are planted in a row and alternate in size. And if the garden area allows, then you can resort to planting flower borders as one of the options for decorating the path.
Beautiful barrels and pots.
Barrels are usually placed near a country house, but they can be placed absolutely anywhere. Water is poured into the barrel or it is filled by itself with the help of rain or when the snow melts. From here you can take water to water the plants in the flowerbed, near the house, to wash dirty hands, a ball or toys, to cool off in hot weather, or to put out a fire.
Barrel decor for yard decoration
You can put a basin on top of the barrel or pour soil into an old, unnecessary pan and plant plants. You can put a large bag inside the barrel and throw garbage there.
You can grow flowers in old barrels
To prevent the barrels from looking dirty and old, you can paint them with paint: stripes, checkered patterns, flowers, animals or patterns.
Plant selection
When decorating a flower garden near a house, it is better to give priority to trees, shrubs, and annual flowers.
For example, lilac or viburnum bushes or rose hips are perfect for creating a hedge. For a fence made of metal or stone, the best option would be climbing plants in the form of grapes, kirkazona, actinidia and others. And low-growing coniferous plants can refresh the atmosphere and add a touch of aristocracy. An interesting and unusual decor for the porch would be flowers in clay pots, hydrangea or lavender bushes, or climbing flowers.
If you think carefully about the principle, correctly selecting and alternating summer, autumn and winter plants, then you can enjoy floral beauty almost all year round.

The principle of planting
To make the area in front of the house more aesthetically pleasing, you should take into account a few simple but quite important tips:
- if the flowers are planted very close to the house, then their color scheme should match the shade of the walls as much as possible;
- It is better to decorate large areas in front of the house with the help of bright large flowers with large leaves, and accordingly, in small areas it is better to plant small-leaved flowers of a not flashy color;
- according to the design concept, miniature squares require planting flowers in cool shades in front of the house: lilac, lilac, blue;
- the principle of selecting plants also depends on which part of the front garden is located: the northern side is an alternative for shade-loving plants, the southern side is drought-resistant plants that are not afraid of direct sunlight;
- To preserve the aesthetic appearance of the flower garden even in winter, it is recommended to plant more coniferous trees or shrubs with colorful bark (barberry).
One of the options for a flower garden in front of the house
Decorating the area in front of the house is quite a labor-intensive task. To get a satisfying result, you need to work hard, applying all your imagination and resourcefulness to this matter.
Having finished organizing a flower garden, many estate owners prefer to complete it by finally using landscape accessories selected in one design direction.
As appropriate compositions, you can use decorative vases and flowerpots, wooden tubs and barrels, granite and concrete flowerpots, of course, all this should be selected in accordance with the architectural style of the building. Another interesting and eye-catching element are various garden figurines and statues, or large beautiful stones. One way or another, when arranging the proposed site, it is important to maintain a middle ground so as not to make the overall appearance too catchy or overloaded.
Decorative elements for the garden will add zest to the overall landscape design
Shaped design of bushes
Curly shrubs or unusual hedge trimmings are quite popular today. Of course, landscape design of this type requires a lot of effort and a significant financial investment, but the result is worth it. Shrubs of unusual shape can act as improvised gates, placed on one side or the other of the door, or they can act as a frame for the path leading to the front entrance.

Playground design
Along with their organizational and developmental function, children's playgrounds in the courtyards of residential buildings also carry a decorative function. Cheerful, bright designs delight the eye of any resident, even if he has long said goodbye to childhood; color accents highlight children's possessions among the prosaic world of adults in non-marking gray tones. “Customers sometimes ask to assemble a platform from products united by a theme: “Glade,” “Forest,” “Animals,” “Sea,” says Andrey Vostryakov. — It’s successful if the required set is obtained from standard elements. When this is not possible, we offer a compromise option: paint the products in the desired color and support the given theme with decorative elements - plywood overlays in the form of animals and plants.”
Today, the demand is mainly for the design of children's playgrounds, which at least a little reminds today's parents of their own childhood: these are bright small forms associated with animals and fairy-tale characters. However, clients do not always strive to match the colors and style of children’s play equipment with such additional landscaping elements as benches, bins and flowerpots. Sometimes they are ordered neutral, as in parks and squares, coated with old copper or silver.
“Very rarely, but there are non-standard requests that stand out from the general mass,” says Andrey Vostryakov. “They are caused by the developers of new modern houses thinking about ways to subordinate the design of the playground to the general architectural concept of the residential complex. There are no clear requests yet, but technical specialists are talking about plans, studying the market, asking if we can make our products in a strict style and subdued colors. Leave fairy-tale motifs to other yards and bring children's play equipment closer to high-tech. Painted in white, grey, black, metallic colors, simple, but maximally functional for the physical development of young people, neat forms of strict geometric outlines - this is how Krasnoyarsk builders imagine the playgrounds of the future.”
Garden paths
To give an aesthetic appearance to the entire garden plot, you can lay out garden paths. Most often, you can use brick or natural stone for this purpose. This element of overall landscape design has great advantages, as it allows you to make the area in front of the house neater, especially in inclement weather. Moreover, the arrangement of such paths ensures comfortable movement for residents and visually separates the functional zones of the entire site. Along the entire length of such paths, you can plant flower arrangements, scatter gravel and create small lawns.
Who pays
Residents pay for landscaping work in courtyard areas of apartment buildings, whether they own residential property or just rent it. Of course, you can improve the yard with your own hands if there are activists who want to do small construction and other necessary work. In practice, this does not happen very often. Also, such activities can be carried out at the expense of public funds, if this is an ongoing federal improvement program.
Repairs to the local area of an apartment building are also carried out at the expense of the residents. Repairs are considered current:
- damaged sections of the road, that is, partial asphalting or another method;
- fence and other enclosing structures;
- children's facilities;
- sports designs.
The overhaul includes:
- paving;
- landscaping;
- installation of fences and buildings;
- equipping utility areas, children's and sports areas.
Fountains and ponds
Beautiful and varied fountains always attract attention, no matter where they are located - in a park area or in the area in front of the house (which is even better!). The organization of such design solutions successfully combines several positive aspects: a fountain in the courtyard gives greater expressiveness and aesthetics to the entire area, but also ensures a constant high level of humidity. Small ponds or a babbling waterfall can become the main design display, creating a feeling of peace and tranquility.

Birdhouses and feeders.
Many cities have petting zoos - this is a place where there are many different animals. You can pet them, hand feed them and take pictures. Why go somewhere and pay money for it? We install bird or squirrel feeders in the yard and put up birdhouses.
Install bird feeders in your yard
Bird feeders can be made with your own hands from materials that anyone can find at home: plastic bottles, wood, a juice or milk carton, a tin can, a plastic container, an old kettle, a mug, or you can buy a ready-made version of the feeder.
You can make a beautiful bird feeder with your own hands
We hang the feeder on a windowsill, a tree, attach it to a pole or on a fence and pour in bird food. Children will watch with interest how birds eat, what types of birds are in the area, you can also take beautiful photographs and give them to friends in the form of postcards for the holidays.
Green rooms
Modern trends in landscape design involve the organization of so-called “green rooms”. These are specially designated recreation areas, with garden areas. In such corners there is upholstered furniture designed for a pleasant and comfortable pastime, plants in special containers, tables for food, and also things that make the evening time enchanting and magical. When organizing such green rooms, you should carefully consider the covering to protect furniture and other components of the overall interior from bad weather.

Fronting the house is a fun and interesting activity, especially since the expected variations are more than enough. Of course, you can reconstruct the area in front of the house with your own hands, or you can seek help from specialists who have sufficient information regarding modern trends and relevant skills in this area. In a short time and taking into account the personal taste preferences of the owner of the estate, such experts are able to transform the area in front of the house, making it unusual and unique.
Yards in five districts of Moscow
Sites in the Losinoostrovsky, Maryino, Kuzminki, Bibirevo and Ryazansky districts were selected based on a number of criteria: remoteness of the districts, outdated equipment, yard area of at least 1 hectare, established active community of residents.
To work on the pilot project, five architectural teams were selected that had previously worked on the Lyublino estate, the light park in Bibirevo, the Brateevskaya Poima, Terletskaya Dubrava, Kuzminki parks, the Ogorodnaya Sloboda park on Chistye Prudy, design. The specialists also engaged in participatory design.
