Watching tire decorations in other people's front gardens, people often sigh with envy. It is believed that not everyone can make a flower bed out of tires with their own hands. But the master’s work is scary, and it’s worth trying to decorate a summer cottage or flower garden at the entrance yourself. Here are some ideas and instructions for implementing them.

Where to get tires in sufficient quantities
For old tires, go to your neighbors in the garage cooperative or to the nearest tire shop. Unfortunately, suitable material can also be found in natural landfills. Under natural conditions, rubber decomposes for more than 100 years! Take your used tires to work - this way you will make your contribution to caring for the environment!
What tires are best for crafts?
- When choosing between domestic and imported tires, give preference to the second. Foreign-made products are softer and easier to cut. Famous foreign brands: Michelin, Yokohama, Hankook.
- Rubber intended for use in winter conditions is often more pliable than summer tires. It is easy to cut and process.
- The longer a tire is used and the more wear it wears, the thinner and softer it is. This means it will be easier to work with. Sometimes you will have to not only cut, but also turn out the rubber.
The tread pattern has almost worn off - driving on such tires is unsafe, but they are ideal for creativity
What else will you need for work?
- Reliable, sharp knife.
- An electric drill for drilling holes in rubber for a knife to fit into.
- Grinder or file.
- Electric jigsaw.
- Wire brush for removing dirt.
- Chalk or marker for marking.
- Primer, PVA, degreaser, machine oil for lubrication.
- Rigid wire with a diameter of 5–6 mm, plastic clamps.
- Roulette.
Decoration
To increase the resistance of rubber to moisture, temperature changes and ultraviolet radiation, painting is recommended . When choosing paint, preference should be given to those marked KCH-136 (intended for rubber). This paint absorbs up to 97% of sunlight and creates the smoothest possible surface. Once applied, it dries within a few hours.
If painting is done at a temperature of +25 °C, the garden path can be used within 2 days.
Useful tips
- The first step to creating a craft is preparing the material. Thoroughly clean the surface of dirt, and degrease immediately before priming and painting.
- An excellent knife for rubber - sharp, with a thin spine. How to check sharpening? Run a notebook sheet over the blade. A well-sharpened knife will cut paper like a razor.
- When cutting a tire, lubricate the knife blade with machine oil - the work will go easier and faster.
- Before cutting out figured elements, do not be lazy to apply markings. Based on the eye or the tread pattern, you can bevel the line and ruin the part.
- Before painting the tire, prime the surface. A primer with a small amount of PVA will enhance the strength of the coating and reduce paint consumption. Quick-drying compounds harden in 6–7 hours, conventional solutions require 10–12 hours.
Do you want an unusual flower bed? Decorative trim for a tire can be found literally under your feet. For example, the surface can be covered with beautiful pebbles or smooth pebbles, cones, pieces of colored tiles or plastic bottle caps. Small fragments stick well to a primed surface using Moment glue.
Garden figurines
The most common figurine is a white swan; its production requires a tire without a cord. Crafts in the form of a giraffe, frog, zebra and many other animals will look good in the garden.
Multi-tiered compositions
Imagine that tires are construction parts. Now come up with compositions from them: pyramids, turrets and other figures. To prevent the earth from waking up, geotextile inserts are placed on the bottom of the tires located on the upper tiers. Don't forget to make holes for water drainage.

For a bed of tires, choose durable and unpretentious flowers: marigolds, phlox, marigolds
Old textured rubber also has decorative properties
The ladybug's head can be made from an old bucket or canister, the antennae can be made from knitting needles
Use tires of large and small sizes, with different tread patterns
You can make a well from three tires of the same diameter, a pair of planks and a piece of roofing material
Your favorite cartoon can be a source of inspiration
If you don't like the appearance of your tires, you can trim them with stones.
Stones are fixed to the concrete mixture
Smooth sea pebbles are also good for decoration.
The handle can be made from a separate piece of tire
You can cut different parts from tires. Then “assembling the construction set” becomes an even more exciting activity.

To create a daisy flower bed, just cut three tires in half
Parts can be fixed with construction staples
What design options are available?
To get started, you should familiarize yourself with the main points, prepare the tool and follow the instructions.
Tire structures are conventionally divided by type:
- low and high;
- rounded and curly;
- single-tier or multi-tier;
- suspended or horizontal.
The simplest option is a round flowerbed. To obtain a complete composition, you need to cover the whole tire with paint of any color, then fill it with soil and plant plants.
Multi-tiered flower beds consist of several multi-colored tires stacked on top of each other. Moreover, the wheels can be either the same or different diameters (they are folded in descending order, like a pyramid). The hanging type involves a tire with a closed bottom, secured with a rope or chain to a pipe or tree (similar to the principle of creating a flowerpot).
If you hang a decorated tire and plant flowers in it, the faded wall will clearly be transformed
Interpretations of shaped flower beds made from used tires are varied. These can be images of animals and birds, flowers, kitchen attributes (for example, compositions of tea set items). Here are some common options:
- frog;
- turtle;
- swan;
- parrot;
- penguin;
- vases;
- chamomile;
- teapot and cups.
Flowerbed made from tires
A tire daisy is both an independent model and a basic part of many designs. Flowerbeds can be arranged in a row to decorate the approach to the house or a relaxation area.
1. Apply markings to the rubber.
The lines go from thickening to thickening
2. Before cutting the tire, you need to make sure that there are no metal cords inside. They are not present in ordinary tires for passenger cars, but they may be present in tires for trucks.
Petals can be triangular, semicircular, square
3. Cut off the side on the opposite side.
We make transverse cuts to the beginning of the tread, every 20 - 25 cm
4. Turn the part inside out.
Inside the product you can make a bottom from geofabric
5. All that remains is to paint the flowerbed!
A flower bed can be placed on a “pedestal”

Flowerbed-bowl made of tires with a disk
1. Mark a zigzag cutting line along the entire frontal circumference of the tire.
Thanks to the triangular petals, the flowerpot will look like a large flower
2. We begin to cut out the part along the contour.
Don't forget to sharpen your knife well before work!
3. Check to see if there are any uncut areas left. And we “turn out” the workpiece slowly, piece by piece.
It is easier to do the work together with an assistant
4. If there is a tube in the wheel, it must be carefully cut out.
We remove everything unnecessary; we definitely won’t need the tire for the flowerbed
5. The bowl is ready!
The flowerbed can be painted as your imagination dictates.

Complex pictures can be painted with artistic acrylic paints
A beautiful drawing can be achieved using three or four colors.

Tires are a truly universal material. Look for creative ideas based on your skill level.

Preparatory work
If you have sufficient quantities of the necessary material, you need to prepare it. To do this, you need to remove all objects stuck in it and wash thoroughly with water and detergent. Next, the tires are dried and you can proceed directly to the process of making crafts.
