We make the grill area ourselves. Step-by-step instructions for building a brick barbecue

A suburban area or cottage will be perfectly complemented by a gazebo equipped with a barbecue. It is simply irreplaceable for lovers of outdoor recreation and food cooked over an open fire.

The grill area inside the gazebo can be equipped with:

  • stone stove with cast iron cauldron;
  • portable or stationary barbecue, grill or barbecue;
  • a fireplace, which is usually equipped on a glazed terrace.

The choice of type of gazebo depends on the material of manufacture, landscape design of the site, and the preferences of the owner. Structures must fit harmoniously into the overall style of the house and garden.

The materials most often used to build gazebos with barbecues or barbecues are:

  • stone or brick;
  • wood (timber, log, board);
  • rolled metal

Types of gazebos equipped with barbecue facilities

Made of wood

This natural material fits organically into any exterior. Such buildings have an attractive appearance, and the addition of garden furniture and a Russian-style stove will make covered gazebos with barbecues a functional structure. Thanks to the natural properties of wood, buildings are warm. And if the structure is glazed, then the room is suitable for use in the cold season.

Wooden gazebos are made from rounded logs, profiled timber, and boards. Rectangular or square grilles on the walls will be an excellent decoration and protection from the sun.

When working with wood, remember that this material is highly flammable. Therefore, such a gazebo with a barbecue must necessarily comply with fire safety standards for buildings with a stove or fireplace. An open fire is placed at a distance of at least a meter from pieces of furniture or decor. At least 50 cm is left between the side walls and the stove. The building elements are treated with a fire retardant - a special impregnation that prevents the spread of fire.

Also, do not forget that wood is highly susceptible to rotting. The following rules will help protect the structure from moisture:

  • before concreting, enclose the supports in metal glasses;
  • impregnate structural elements with an antiseptic or paint them;
  • Place gravel or crushed stone around the building with the fireplace to improve drainage.

With metal frame

Due to the ease of manufacture and long service life, gazebo designs with a metal hearth are also popular. Such buildings are:

  • forged;
  • with a profile frame.

Forging elements will decorate any gazebo and add airiness and lightness to the building.

However, not everyone can make such decorative parts. It is much easier to assemble a frame from a metal profile and sheathe it inside and out with finishing material. If you lay a layer of insulation in the wall, then such a gazebo is suitable for use at any time of the year. A glazed wall or roof section, as well as large windows, will visually lighten the structure and fill the interior space with light. And installing a fireplace or stove will allow you to cook and warm up at the same time.

Made of stone or brick

Brick or stone gazebos with barbecues are the most durable, but at the same time costly structures. When developing a project for such a structure, the large weight of the material is taken into account and a reinforced strip foundation is provided.

Under the stone stove, a separate base is made of a 200 mm concrete layer with a reinforced frame. This applies to any barbecue gazebo.

The material is selected depending on what the main building is made of. Thus, brick houses are complemented by a brick gazebo; wild untreated stone is more suitable for buildings located away from home, closer to nature.

A wall (or several walls) glazed with stained glass, trimmed with transparent polycarbonate or wooden lattice will make a gloomy stone gazebo more elegant and lighter.

With tandoor

The design of the tandoor provides for stationary and portable options. The 2nd one is smaller and mobile, so it is more preferable for a small gazebo.

Grill house

A gazebo grill usually has a closed structure and is equipped inside with a grill rather than a barbecue.

Flooring

An open flame also leaves its mark on the floor covering used in the construction of the terrace. As you understand, wood, decking, rubber tiles, and even worse, linoleum will, of course, be possible, but undesirable options in places where sparks, or even whole coals, will fall on the floor from time to time.

At the same time, paving stones, concrete and ceramic tiles, wild and artificial stone, as well as clinker are ideal for the site.

But if you still want to build a deck from flammable materials, then at least plan a stone island near the barbecue itself. You can argue about tastes all you want, but safety comes first.

Which hearth to choose for outdoor cooking

Each family gives preference to one dish or another: some love barbecue, others prefer grilled vegetables and meat, and still others equip the gazebo with a stove with a large cauldron for aromatic pilaf.

Devices for cooking outdoors are divided into the following types:

  1. Barbecue grill on skewers.
  2. Oven for fried and boiled dishes.
  3. Barbecue is a type of barbecue. Vegetables or meat are cooked on the grill.
  4. Grill is a roasting pan with a lid. A distinctive feature is that the products are fried on all sides at the same time, and thanks to the lid, a constant temperature is maintained inside.
  5. A gazebo equipped with a fireplace is intended more for heating than for cooking.

Let's choose a suitable place

The plan is drawn up taking into account the available space. The barbecue must be equipped away from bushes and buildings, from the barnyard, on a flat surface protected from the winds. To build a brazier next to a private house means to provide access to communications (water supply necessary for cooking). But it is better to comply with fire safety requirements and maintain a distance of 5 m from a brick house, and 10 m from wooden buildings. And for convenience, instead of a home sink, you can use an outdoor table with a sink.

Where to install a stove and build a gazebo

Before choosing a location for these structures, decide on the type of structure. Stationary barbecue stoves are erected together with a gazebo. But there are also projects where the roaster is located separately. Both methods of installing the stove are justified.

When setting up a fireplace, remember that fire not only provides the heat necessary for cooking, but also produces smoke, which can interfere with rest or irritate neighbors. It is better to install a gazebo equipped with a stove away from the house, especially if the wind often blows towards the home. The same applies to nearby areas, so that barbecue does not become a cause of discord with people living nearby.

If it is planned to build an open or semi-open structure, choose drawings of a gazebo with fences on the north side. Cold winds blow from there, so it is better to protect yourself from them in advance. A practical solution is to equip the structure with removable walls or thick curtains that will close the openings in bad weather.

Users often search for:

  • How to make a stove for a gazebo

The hearth itself in the gazebo is usually installed near the northern wall. A stationary stove is installed according to the rules. First of all, it is necessary to properly design the smoke exhaust system to ensure good draft for fuel combustion. It is better to consult with an experienced stove maker on this issue.

Original and functional barbecues can be purchased ready-made and then modified for a specific project. For example, make the brazier portable on high legs or install it permanently on a stone base.

A stove with a cauldron requires a special design that takes into account the size of the dishes and the location of the firebox. The dimensions of such a fireplace are larger than those of a conventional meat roaster.

A functional solution is to have a countertop near the stove where a sink, cutting boards, and shelves for food and utensils are located.

Pros and cons of separate accommodation

Allocating space for a stationary barbecue on a summer cottage has its pros and cons, which should be taken into account when designing:

  • A permanent place for a barbecue saves time in the future on preparing for a picnic, and the presence of a roof makes it possible to have a picnic on rainy days.
  • Ensuring complete fire safety of the facility. You will always be calm in this matter.
  • Large heat capacity allows you to better fry meat, as well as minimize the cost of firewood.
  • A beautifully equipped barbecue looks impressive and shows the high status of the owners.

At the same time, it should be noted that the project is quite expensive and not mobile, so the choice of space is taken with full responsibility.

As you can see, before you build a barbecue, you should take the barbecue area seriously. An unsuccessfully chosen space can further spoil the mood of household members and neighbors and create a fire hazard.

Types of fuel for garden stoves

To light a fire in nature, coal, firewood, gas, and briquettes are used. Not all types give the same heat, and the smoldering time is also different. Fuel is selected based on the technical characteristics of the stove.

An environmentally friendly type of fuel that does not emit smoke when heated deserves special attention. These are stones of volcanic origin that are heated by an electric coil. As a result, the heat from the stones is no worse than from wooden firewood, and there is no smoke. This option is indispensable for a small summer cottage, where a residential building and neighbors are in “dangerous proximity.”

Regardless of what drawings, materials and interior arrangement are chosen, a gazebo with a barbecue will certainly become a favorite place in the country house. After all, it’s so nice to spend time with family and friends near the fireplace!

What types of gazebos with barbecue area are there, depending on their location?

There are different options for constructing gazebos:

  • open . Suitable for small areas where outdoor picnics are not held very often. They accommodate: tables and chairs, couches for relaxation, a brazier just in the open air. This option is the easiest to design and does not require large investments and the use of physical force during arrangement. But furniture should be installed here that is lightweight so that it can be quickly hidden from the rain;
  • closed . A canopy, walls are built over the recreation area, or it is simply placed on the veranda. The barbecue, stove and necessary furniture are located here. If the area is set up on the veranda, you can install a garden swing or hang a hammock on it;
  • mobile (universal) . This involves installing a tent that is assembled in cloudy or rainy weather and disassembled on sunny days;
  • patio _ In this case, the barbecue area at the dacha is set up in the backyard, away from prying and prying eyes. This courtyard can be either a veranda or a separate room in the fresh air. Hedges most often serve as a fence here, and the patio walls are in contact with the house;
  • verandas _ This species is protected from all sides from negative environmental factors. In such an extension you can safely build a reliable fireplace with a chimney. Massive and comfortable furniture and decorative elements are installed on the covered veranda. The main thing is that all decorative and finishing items fit the overall design of the house.

Gazebo design style

At the moment, there are a huge number of styles in design, here are some of them: chalet, Provence, half-timbered, modern, loft, minimalism, country and others.
