The best ten ideas for New Year's decoration of a country house and plot

Celebrating the New Year in nature is the dream of many city dwellers. But it can only come true for those lucky ones who own, albeit small, their own plot outside the city. And, of course, those who are friends with them. Just imagine how wonderful it is to escape from the bustle of the city and plunge into the world of fresh air, silence and amazingly white snow. Of course, you can prepare all sorts of delicious things in advance and bring them with you, but be sure to make a spicy, smoky-smelling kebab at the dacha. But for the fairy tale to take place and be complete, you definitely need to heat the house well and decorate it for the arrival of guests. It is about the secrets of exterior decoration of a house and site that we will talk to you.

Idea #1 – fun ice decorations

Not everyone is lucky with frost in winter. Only residents of cold places can afford this decoration option. However, if the weather is moderately cold without any thaws during the holidays, you can prepare spectacular ice decorations in the freezer in advance and use them. To do this, you need to beautifully place leaves, twigs, bright viburnum and rowan berries, small shells, cones, toys in suitable forms and fill them with water. Even colored water frozen in the shape of a green Christmas tree, a red apple or multi-colored candies will look great.

As a basis for ice decorations, you can use not only traditional winter coniferous branches and berries of rowan or viburnum, but also flowers or petals

Don't forget to provide your ice crafts with ribbon or string that will make them easy to hang. You can decorate a living New Year tree in the yard of your house or just tree branches with such toys. They are hung under the roof of the house, installed on fence posts or on the edges of stair steps. For an unusual Christmas wreath made of ice, you will need a large mold. Entwined with a traditional scarlet or golden ribbon, it will look so unusual that it will undoubtedly attract the attention of your guests.

To create such a wreath, cupcake pans are usually used. To remove the finished wreath from the mold, leave it in a warm place for a short time.

Idea #2 – New Year crafts from branches

Do not throw away small branches that remain after autumn pruning of trees. The time has come to put them into action. On the eve of the New Year, they can be used to create wonderful decorations of various types.

Both snowmen are made using the same method, which is based on the use of branches left over from autumn tree pruning

We will offer you only a few options, but we are sure that you can add to this list yourself.

  • Christmas wreaths. They are very simple to make, but look creative. Of course, they can and should be decorated using for this purpose ribbons, Christmas tree decorations and other attributes that we strongly associate with the New Year celebration.
  • Snowman. To bring this idea to life, all you need to do is paint a few thin twigs white, twist them into three wreaths, tie a wonderful winter scarf on an impromptu little man, put a hat on him and hang Christmas tree balls and tinsel around his neck. So in literally an hour and a half, a funny snowman will appear on our front door.
  • New Year's composition. To create a New Year's composition, you can paint the branches white, gold, silver or red. Or you can simply cover them with clear glue and dip them in foam chips. The transformed branches will become the basis of the composition, and balls, cones, hearts, tinsel or New Year's figures will be its successful addition.
  • Balls. Their thin and flexible branches can be used to make unique balls. Painted in white, gold, copper, silver or in their natural form, they will not go unnoticed. They decorate Christmas trees and tree branches. They can simply be laid out or scattered along the path or hung on the porch.

If you wrap all the same balls with safe Christmas tree garlands, you will get charming landscape lights that will be very appropriate for this particular holiday.

Here are two more options for using branches. We are sure that in the process of decorating a country plot and a cottage, you can create absolutely charming things with your own hands.

Defining zones

Do you know the difference between a professional approach to decor and an amateur one? Decor studios always begin work by determining the scope and budget. This is the key to the wow effect. What's the point?

Before you start purchasing, be sure to determine your budget. The number of places you decorate depends on it. The main rule: if the budget is limited, you should not spread yourself across many points. Otherwise, you will really decorate the whole house, but the effect will be blurry.

To make your home decoration for the New Year look expensive with your own hands, focus on a couple of zones. They should be decorated as much as possible. For example, it could be the main tree and facade or staircase - it depends on your preferences. The rest of the places don't need to be decorated at all. This approach allows you not to waste your budget.

Idea #3 – compositions with sleds and skates

If you have old skates and sleds lying around in your closet and for some reason you are not going to use them for their intended purpose, it’s time to include them in the New Year’s decor of your yard or home.

To make old skates look respectable, feel free to apply a layer of bright acrylic or spray paint to their leather surface. The outer part of the shoe will look harmonious in combination with bows, ribbons, beads, toys, and gilded cones. Stick branches with rowan berries, pine paws, and symbolic gift boxes inside.

Old skates can also serve as a New Year's decoration. Just look how organically they look as part of a garland that runs along the perimeter of the front door

The blade of the skates can be lubricated with glue and dipped in crushed polystyrene foam, which remains in excess after purchasing household appliances. Skates dressed up in this way will look good on the front door or on the wall. They become part of a cute garland.

The colorful palette of the upcoming holiday can be complemented with old sleighs. They should not be lavishly decorated. It is enough to update the color and, perhaps, tie a bright satin ribbon with a bow to them. After all, Santa Claus comes to children on a sleigh, so they themselves are a kind of symbol.

The left sled with the house number at the same time very much resembles its outline as a Christmas tree with a star on top. This similarity was very cleverly played up by their owner

Depending on the size of the sled, they are hung on the wall of the house, leaned against the entrance, or used as a stand for other decorations or illumination elements. In any case, they will fit very organically into the overall picture.

Idea #4 – beautiful flower pots

Summer has passed, and the elegant flowerpots in which we planted annual plants have remained out of use. They have no reason to be empty. Now we will quickly find something to decorate them with. You can use the same universal elements of New Year's decoration: paws of coniferous plants, gold-plated and silver-plated cones, New Year's balls, "rain", multi-colored branches, ribbons and bows.

Here are two completely different options for using a flowerpot. In the first case, it is used as a stand for an element of illumination, and in the second, it looks like a cornucopia, promising prosperity to its owner in the coming year

The flowerpots are placed on the open balcony, from where you can admire the fireworks that will definitely happen after the New Year. Paired flowerpots can be a wonderful decoration for the entrance to the house. In principle, they can be left in their usual places. After all, they will perform their previous function only in new weather conditions.

These twin planters probably look wonderful in the summer, but they are absolutely stunning in the winter. Balls lying on pine trees look luxurious

How to save on decor

New Year is not only fun, but also expensive. In order to have more money left over for gifts for loved ones, you should not spend money on yard decor.

All decorations can be made by yourself. Of course, this design option should only be chosen if you have the time and creativity.

Even children can make such decorations:

Idea #5 – ceiling medallions in action

You rarely see natural stucco in a house today, but its imitation based on polyurethane or plastic is quite common. Take a closer look at the cute medallion under the chandelier. Doesn't he remind you of anything? But this is an excellent basis for a Christmas wreath. It can be painted with spray paint in any color. If you have an idea for multi-color decoration, it is better to use acrylic paints.

The surface of such a medallion is a whole world for making your fantasies come true. Not only bows and artificial snowflakes will be used, but also beads and even rhinestones. If the medallion itself looks simple and does not spark any creative impulses in you, you can use it as the basis for a wreath, which will be completely hidden under coniferous branches and various decor appropriate to the occasion.

Beads, rhinestones, artificial snowflakes, buttons, braid and multi-colored ribbons - all these elements give the decoration a special charm and personality

Idea #6 – deer figurine for your garden

Such a decorative figurine will not leave anyone indifferent. Surely you won’t want to part with it even after the holiday.

It is truly very difficult to part with such a handsome man. In spring, you can exchange your heavy winter scarf for a light scarf, remove your leg warmers and decorate your antlers with bright artificial flowers.

To create it you will need:

  • a round plastic water bottle with a capacity of 10-12 or 16 liters depending on the size of the figure - body;
  • one short stick – neck;
  • four straight sticks of approximately the same length - legs;
  • men's old shoe (closed sneaker or boot) of large size - muzzle;
  • a bunch of branches - horns;
  • large pine cone - tail;
  • a pair of smooth and shiny large buttons “on a stem” - eyes;
  • a small piece of bright red fabric - a nose.

The large boot needs to be painted with white spray paint and allowed to dry. It is better to attach the eyes and nose, stuffed with cotton, to the deer’s face right away. We secure them with wire on the back of the boot. Make a hole in its sole, closer to the heel. You also need to make a hole in the bottle a little lower than the cork. Connect the deer's head to its body using a short stick. Insert the four legs of the deer from the “belly” side of the figure. They should rest against its “back” from the inside. We use wire to attach the tail. Beautiful branches-horns will complement the picture.

All that remains is to dress up the handsome deer. For this purpose, we use a fluffy and long scarf that will hide traces of the connection between the head and torso, knee socks or socks for the feet, and an old sweater for the torso. The sweater must be pulled over the bottle before assembly begins. If problems arise with unnecessary clothing, the deer's body can simply be painted. Snow on the back will help depict sisal. Tinsel and New Year's toys on the horns will also come in handy.

You simply cannot pass by such a wreath without smiling. Take a closer look at it, it is made from cones and things that are in every home

Idea #7 – angels made from logs

A winter cottage can be heated in different ways, but if your house has a real fireplace, then there should be no problem with firewood. Let's show our imagination and create very simple but touching characters. The wings and heads do not have to be white, but it is better if they are plain. Old socks, tulle and scarves are suitable for decorating such figures. If you want to make additional details, use felt, foil, paper, sisal and other similar materials.

To build such wonderful figurines, you need a minimum of costs and a great desire to do something pleasant for yourself and everyone around you.

Idea #8 – snowmen and candles made from plastic bottles

If there is a lot of snow at your dacha and its texture allows you to make a real snowman with a carrot nose, a broom in your hand and a bucket on your head, you can safely skip this advice and read on. We want to help those who don’t have snow feel the beauty of winter: you can make an almost real snowman from the bottom of plastic bottles, wire, rope and other elements.

If you thought these snowmen were made of snow, you were wrong. They are inflatable, but look very natural against a white background.

In order for the snowman to be secured sufficiently firmly, it must be made on a base in the form of a pin or pipe well driven into the ground. We construct two balls from thick metal wire that need to be placed on our base. We wrap the balls with rope so that subsequent parts look better and do not move or sag.

We carefully separate the bottoms from ordinary one and a half liter plastic transparent bottles. Make sure they are the same size. We paint them white and let them dry. We drill two holes at the edges of the blanks opposite each other so that they can be easily strung on twine in the form of a garland.

As you have already noticed, not only snowmen are made here from plastic bottles, but also pendant lamps

We wrap the balls with these garlands, not forgetting to secure them. We equip the resulting snowman with a nose, hat, scarf, eyes, buttons and a charming smile. A cute snowman is ready to defend your site.

Original Christmas candles are made using the same pattern. The light source itself must be fireproof. The leaks on the spark plugs are represented by polyurethane foam. From two-liter green bottles you can make a pretty pine needle at the foot of the candle composition. Red and yellow wrapping paper with gold designs are used as an added touch.

When making such nice plastic compositions, it is important to use a light source that will not set this entire complex structure on fire.

Decorating the house for the New Year

On the facade of the house there are several main elements that form the overall appearance of the house.

How to decorate windows

Windows can be decorated outside and inside. On the street side they hang a flowerpot with a composition of fir branches, toys, and garlands.

Garlands imitating spruce branches, tinsel or LED strips are fixed around the perimeter of the opening. The curtain garland can be hung on glass from the street or from the room.

The window is painted, decorated with homemade snowflakes and flags, decorated with wreaths and textiles with a festive print.

Entry group

The porch is the main element on the facade. If there are columns, they are decorated with wreaths and garlands.

If the width of the area allows, then you can install a small Christmas tree, flowerpots with fir branches or a backlit snowman figurine on it.

You can place lanterns-candlesticks along the edges of the steps. The railings are decorated with bows, flags, tinsel or garlands.

Gable

The roof gable is an equally noticeable architectural element on the facade. A large wreath or decorative lighting in the form of a star, snowflake, bell, or bow is placed in its center.

Curly garlands of icicles or snowflakes are hung around the perimeter of the roof.

Idea #9 – festive illumination

The topic of New Year's illumination is so extensive that it deserves a separate discussion. Today, bright and varied lights are an indispensable holiday attribute. With the help of electric garlands and candles they decorate garden plots and cottage facades. Manufacturers all over the world, sensitive to market trends, are vying with each other to offer more and more new illumination options.

In order to create such a complex structure and not go broke on electricity bills, you need to have a good understanding of resource-saving technologies

Luminous sculpture is very popular. Usually these are traditional characters, without whom this celebration simply cannot do. There is Santa Claus, and the Snowman, deer and Santa Claus with his staff. Even a lonely sculpture of a staff finds its fans. Next to them are the symbols of Christmas: angels, stars.

Porch

How can you decorate your home for the New Year? It’s worth starting with the porch - this is the element of the house that affects the first impression of the owners. He should be given maximum attention. Guests who want to celebrate New Year's Eve should feel the holiday right from the yard.

Nothing says more about the proximity of the main winter holidays than the bright light from garland lanterns. The entire porch should be hung with garlands. They are also hung on doors and windows. You can add an unusual addition to an electric garland - it is wrapped in pine or spruce branches. Next, all this is hung on the pillars and railings of the porch. After this, the garland will look more festive.

Wreaths are made from green winter plants. This is not just a decorative element, but a symbol of strength. The best way to welcome guests is to decorate your front door with a beautiful wreath. It is made from spruce branches or branches of other evergreens.

The porch is also decorated with flowers. One of the symbols of Christmas and New Year is spurge. It is sold both artificially and live. A living flower is afraid of the cold, and is placed indoors on the windowsill. An artificial plant is hung on the door - it will complement the flower arrangement at the entrance.

A small but very important detail is the welcome mat on the porch. It is also a symbol of Christmas. It will perform not only a decorative, but also a very practical function. Guests will be able to wipe their feet so as not to carry dirt inside the apartment or house.

Idea #10 – traditional and creative garlands

Garland is another decoration that is included in the list of traditional ones. This is roughly what it looked like a hundred years ago, and it can still be seen today. True, in the West more often than here. In principle, such decoration is quite simple to make with your own hands. But it cannot be called environmentally justified. If we do not have enough artificial branches, we will make another garland without harming the environment.

Needless to say, the garland looks very impressive, but it would be better if it were made from artificial materials

Together with your child, you will be happy to build any of the garlands presented below. We will simply cut out the first one from a piece of paper folded several times, and then color it to our liking. In the second case, it is enough to arm yourself with wire, narrow satin ribbons and rope. It's also easy to make. But the simplest is the third. To create it, we will stretch a strong linen rope and simply hang whatever we want on it using wooden clothespins.

All three garlands, despite the simplicity of their manufacture, look very attractive. Felt, paper, wooden clothespins, paints, satin ribbons and wire - that's all you need to create them.

Christmas tree in the yard

If you have a spruce tree growing in your yard, be sure to hang toys, a garland on it, and attach a star to the top of your head. Decorating your home this way for the New Year will make the celebration especially memorable.

It is easy to replace a living plant with artificial products. Modern material easily tolerates low temperatures and high humidity.
