Landscape design of a garden in a cozy country style (52 photos)

Country style in landscape design is used quite often. It gained popularity among owners of suburban areas due to its simplicity and at the same time originality. A comfortable wooden bench in the shade of birch trees, flower beds with daisies and jasmine, fragrant lilacs, a small pond with water lilies - all this creates a completely unique serene mood and is conducive to relaxation. The procedure for designing a plot in country style, with all its advantages, does not require too much financial investment. You don't need to have much design experience to do this.

A cozy corner of your garden will help create a country style.

What landscaping elements can be used?

Of course, country style, like any other, has its own unique features. In this direction there are usually:

  • flower beds in large quantities;
  • winding paths;
  • water.

You can decorate a garden in this style using absolutely any elements that create the atmosphere of a quiet country house or even a small manorial estate.

In the first case, it could be, for example, a roughly knocked together wooden table with birch stump chairs, an old rocker against the wall of a house, wheels from a cart, a small plank bridge over a dry stream. In the second there is wicker furniture, flower pots, large clay flowerpots, a cart-flower bed, a fence made of basalt and a barbecue.

The more such items there are on the site, the better. Wooden elements look especially harmonious in the design of such courtyards and gardens. These could be, for example, sculptures made from logs, a log frame for a well, or barrels. Clay is a material that is also perfect for country style. In garden design you can use not only flowerpots, but also simple sculptures, pots, and dishes. The main condition that must be met when decorating a country-style cottage is the use of only natural materials. Even the smallest plastic object can disrupt the overall impression of the design.

Interior colors

For decoration, calm colors are used that echo the natural tones of the surrounding landscape. There should be no bright colors or metallic accents in the premises of a “country house”. The entire setting is aimed at creating an atmosphere of peace, diluted with bright objects that bring joy with their rich colors.

The optimal colors are yellow and brown, olive and light green, gray and white tones. Blue and dark red elements serve as accents.

What should lawns, trees and flower beds look like?

When decorating a country-style site, special attention should be paid to the choice of plants. They should be simple, easy to maintain and at the same time quite effective. For example, you can plant sunflowers and poppies near the house, and decorative yarrow, irises or bells along the paths. Decorative sculptures made of wood or clay are often installed in country flower beds. Of course, you should not use jewelry made from artificial materials. A plastic gnome or crane is absolutely inappropriate in this case.

When landscaping a country-style site, you must follow the following rules:

  1. Flowers and other plants should not be classified according to variety.
  2. It is recommended to decorate country fences and gazebos with weaving ornamental crops.
  3. More than three types of plants are not planted in one flowerbed.

When decorating a garden in a country style, it is advisable to create a couple of beds with vegetables somewhere in a sunny place. Trees on the site are usually planted as fruit trees or flowering ones. Birch, pine and spruce are very suitable for decorating such yards. Country-style dachas are rarely decorated with mowed lawns. Usually only if the design of the yard and garden is done in the style of a manorial estate. Chaotic, wild lawns are more suitable for a country house. You can use any grass for them. For example, green cereals, clover, and blue fescue are perfect.

Original flower beds in country style can be made from an old cart or an unnecessary bicycle.

Site development rules

At first, it may seem that the rustic style is a “lyrical mess”, so there is no need to put effort into creating it. This opinion is wrong; behind the apparent negligence there is labor and time spent, but these worries are pleasant and bring excellent results.

When arranging a site, several points are taken into account: the layout of the territory, the design of the garden and vegetable garden, and decorative elements.

Territory planning

Even a small summer cottage can be beautifully decorated in country style. First of all, they pay attention to the house: it must correspond to a rustic design, its walls must be wooden or plastered. Under no circumstances should you cover your house with modern materials such as siding.

When planning the territory, the following rules are followed: there is no clear zoning, but there is a conditional division into zones, each of which has its own purpose. The site should have:

  • Entrance area. The main path is located on it . It is best if it is made of flat stones, with small grass growing between them. The path leads to the house; along its entire length and near the entrance to the house there are flower beds. Climbing plants will look good on the walls of the house. On the sides of the path, lawns look nice, sown with lawn grass interspersed with meadow flowers (clover, daisies, sweet peas).
  • Economic zone. Here are located auxiliary outbuildings (shed, garage), perhaps a compost pit, and other necessary structures. All auxiliary buildings should be hidden behind green spaces: these can be lush shrubs or climbing plants.
  • Gardening area. There is a country garden here, where fruit bushes and vegetables are planted. In small areas, the gardening area is combined with the economic area.
  • Rest zone. It is being installed near the house. This could be a veranda or a canopy attached to the house. Benches, swings and a hammock are placed nearby. A separate recreation area is arranged in remote corners of the garden, where a gazebo covered with climbing plants is installed.

Garden design

A country garden must combine decorativeness and practicality: it must be beautiful, and the trees must bear a good harvest. Such a garden will look especially attractive in the fall, when fruits flaunt among the leaves.

Shrubs (raspberries, gooseberries, red and black currants) are placed separately. When planting them, you must not forget about accessibility to a water source, since shrubs need more frequent watering than fruit trees.

Beds with vegetables look good if they are given an original shape; the rustic style is emphasized by beds framed with boards. Among the vegetables, calendula or marigolds are planted - these plants not only add decorative value, but also help fight vegetable pests.

Thickets of parsley and dill are combined with low flowers, and decorative varieties of onions can be sown nearby. Pharmacy beds are extremely popular among gardeners - they grow medicinal plants - mint, sage, chamomile, thyme.

Decor elements

The decor of a site decorated in a rustic style should be simple and natural. All items must be made from natural materials (clay, wood, wicker, stone); the use of iron is allowed. You cannot use plastic elements, as such design will remind you of the city and its rhythm of life.

Wooden garden furniture can be purchased at the store, or you can make it yourself. It is very easy to build a table, benches and stools from boards; if desired, you can build a gazebo. It is much more pleasant to use items made by yourself. They carry unique energy and take people back to the past, when there was no scientific and technological progress and most of the necessary items were made independently.

Decorative little things add unique charm: a cart wheel, a broken jug, a garden scarecrow, a watering can for flowers. These items are placed on the site, combining them with mini-beds and flower beds. Wicker baskets made of wicker can be used as flower pots; wooden figurines of animals and fairy-tale characters will organically fit into the design.

A mandatory element of country-style decor is a wicker country fence. It is usually used as a design element near the house, as well as to separate different areas of the site from each other. The color of the fence is given by clay jugs and mallows and sunflowers planted nearby.

If space allows, it would be a good idea to equip a small pond on the site; you can put turtles, fish and frogs in it. A pond creates an atmosphere of peace; water promotes relaxation and calms the nerves.

Pond and paths in country style

A pond in a country landscape is usually one of the key elements. If the owners of the site do not have the opportunity to dig a real large pond, it is worth buying at least a cheap plastic one. The edges of a country-style pond are usually lined with flat stones. Moisture-resistant or marsh plants are planted around them and between them. It can be a swimsuit or a weeping grass. The reeds also look very impressive near such a reservoir.

A slide made of stones is often placed next to the rod. It will be very good if an artificial stream flows from it. Various kinds of unpretentious shrubs near a country-style pond will also grow very well. In general, a pond should be designed in such a way that people near it have a feeling of comfort and unity with nature. Of course, plastic decor is also not suitable in this case.

Country style paths are never straight. These are rather winding, smooth and not too wide village paths. The design for the paths should be as simple as possible. However, this does not mean that they should look sloppy. Paths in this style, decorated with river pebbles, flat stones or log cuts, look very impressive. In order to give the paths more expressiveness, you can use a country garden border.

Flower beds

They are created from hardy, easy-to-care, beautifully flowering perennials. The choice is very rich:

  • lupins of different colors, they will bloom again by autumn if faded flower stalks are cut off in time;
  • decorative onion forms will give the garden a typical rural charm with its blue-violet spherical inflorescences;
  • biennial foxglove, reproducing by self-sowing:
  • various types of bellflower;
  • helenium;
  • yarrow of different colors;
  • numerous types and varieties of phlox.

This is not a complete list of the “inhabitants” of the flower garden. It is impossible to imagine a country garden without vines (clematis and honeysuckle), which easily climb any support. But they look especially impressive when they grow, entwining an arch or gazebo. Numerous cozy relaxation corners are the perfect place for luxurious fragrant rose bushes and its best companion - lavender.

Small architectural forms

Gazebos at country-style dachas are usually built as simple as possible in design. This is evident both in their interior and exterior. Most often, a country gazebo is simply a canopy on wooden posts. The roof of such a structure can be covered with thatch or ploughshare, and the posts are made from untreated tree trunks. More substantial structures are often erected in the courtyard, decorated in the style of a manorial estate. This could be, for example, a log gazebo with beams on the ceiling. In the interior of such a structure, a massive table with the same bench will look very beautiful.

Beautiful country style is made up of pleasant little things, such as a cart filled with wicker baskets.

Wooden garden furniture is perfect for a rustic style.

Quite often, country gardens and patios use a design element such as a terrace. Typically this structure has a maximally open design. The design of the terrace, of course, should fit harmoniously into the interior of the country-style cottage. Inside it, wooden or wicker furniture, antique cabinets, and flowers in pots will look very beautiful. Coarse country knit rugs can be laid on the floor.

In a garden decorated in country style, you should definitely install several benches. They are usually made from wood.

Most often it is simple and inexpensive pine. You can also use more solid oak. Stone benches also look very good in such a landscape. Often these two materials are combined with each other. That is, the stands are made of basalt or some other stone, and the seats and backs are made of wood.
